Oak Ridge improves to 6-0, tops College Park

Oak Ridge starts the year 6-0 for the second time in the past five seasons after it took down College Park, 35-7, Friday night at Woodforest Bank Stadium.

The War Eagles (6-0, 3-0 District 12-6A) previously started 7-0 in 2013.

The loss for the Cavaliers (1-5, 0-3) is their fourth straight.

Trevarious Grimes led Oak Ridge with touchdown runs of 5 and 1 yard respective­ly.

Tanner Lacy caught a 76yard touchdown pass from Bishop Durst in the first quarter.

Camden Barajas had a 10-yard touchdown run for the War Eagles and Brennan Young scored on a 1-yard run.

For the Cavaliers, Daniel Vann rushed for a touchdown and totaled 90 yards. Vann also had four catches for 74 yards.

College Park quarterbac­k Jake Hunnicutt was 20 of 38 for 185 yards. Travis Washburn had 11 of those receptions for 76 yards.

Cooper Lucas had an intercepti­on and nine tackles.

Oak Ridge hosts The Woodlands on Friday at 7:30 p.m. while College Park travels to Conroe.

LEGACY PREP BOUNCES BACK

The Lions came off their first loss of the season last week with a 26-16 win over Beaumont Legact in TAPPS District 6-3A play Friday night.

Legacy Prep (4-1, 3-1) was led by quarterbac­k Jared May, who threw for one touchdown while rushing for two scores. May was 12-for-20 for 190 yards and he had eight rushes for 81 yards.

Patrick Locke caught a touchdown pass and totaled 65 yards on three receptions. Jack Granack had four catches for 64 yards and had an intercepti­on on defense. Hayden Crowder had four catches for 70 yards.

The Lions were led defensivel­y by Brad Hamilton with two quarterbac­k hurries, two tackles and a sack. Christos Theodoridi­s totaled two sacks. Isaac Beeman, Carter Jones, and Logan Mace each had four tackles apiece and Logan Mace added a sack.

Legacy Prep hosts Sugarland Logos Prep Friday at 7 p.m.

LUTHERAN NORTH SHUTS OUT TWCA

The Warriors were held off the scoreboard as they took a 14-0 loss on the road Friday night in TAPPS District 6-3A action to Lutheran North.

The Lions returned a fumble for a touchdown on the first drive of the game and then scored later in the first quarter off a TWCA fumbled snap on a punt.

TWCA 3-3 overall and 2-3 in district play. The Warriors host First Baptist Christian Friday at 7 p.m.

MINAROVIC THROWS 5 TDS AS JOHN COOPER SLIPS PAST CASADY

The Dragons have won three of their last four games after a 34-31 win over Casady (Okla.) Friday night.

John Cooper (4-2, 2-2 Southwest Prep 3A) got the eventual game-winning touchdown with 2:57 left to play with Evan Minarovic hooked up with Logan Leax on a 10-yard score.

Minarovic totaled five touchdown passes — two of which went to Leax — in the contest. He was 26 of 45 for 479 yards.

Leax had 10 receptions for 167 yards. Thomas Elkhoury had six catches, 128 yards and one touchdown. Matt Krehbiel had 76 yards receiving while Ryan Reid had a touchdown and 53 yards.
