Firm aids hurricane recovery efforts

-

Hurricane Harvey’s visit to Houston highlighted the irrepressible spirit of the heart and soul of this great city. Martha Turner Sotheby’s International Realty responded instantly by making a decision to help in three specific areas: children, pets and the city.

A plan was executed to aid assistance as quickly as possible. Kids Meals, an organization that delivers meals to children in need, required additional Ziploc sandwich bags, and MTSIR responded by donating more than 18,000 bags. Pets Alive Houston, a no-kill shelter for animals, was in need of new bath towels — the MTSIR team donated more than 150 towels. Buffalo Bayou Partnership, which oversees the revitalization of all that has taken place along the waterways and parks downtown, needed mosquito spray for its volunteers.

MTSIR’s parent company, Realogy, established a fund for the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey. Realogy president Richard Smith asked all the affiliated brokers to make donations, and gave notice that Realogy pledged to match $75,000 in donations for the foundation. He informed everyone that 100 percent of the proceeds of the campaign would be delivered to the Red Cross to directly help all those affected by the storm. Due to the overwhelming response by agents across the country, Realogy increased its participation to $150,000. An amount of $550,000 was raised, including $150,000 from the Realogy match.
