Briscoe’s 5 scores lead Sam Houston

ABILENE — Jeremiah Briscoe threw for 350 yards and five touchdowns as Sam Houston State had to battle back to get past Abilene Christian 44-35 on Saturday to remain in second place in the Southland Conference.

Sam Houston (9-1, 7-1 Southland) held a 24-0 lead in the first quarter and a 24-7 lead at the break. Briscoe, who threw touchdown passes to Ragan Henderson, Davion Davis and Yedidiah Louis for scores in the first quarter, hit Davis on an 18-yard scoring toss to start the third.

The Bearkats rallied from a fourth-quarter deficit when Briscoe hit Louis, who had a career-best 187 receiving yards, on a 15-yard scoring toss and Davis returned a punt 52 yards for a score. SOUTHERN 33 TEXAS SOUTHERN 7
