FLOOD VICTIMS FLOORING PURCHASE GUIDE

- If you must use a contactor go to www.FloorsForLiving.com to download the Contractor Shopping Guide. It will educate you on what to ask from them as well as want to demand for a better installation today that gives you a happier tomorrow.

Dear Neighbors, Within the next 12 months more people will want and need our service more than we can handle. If you can be patient and plan ahead I believe we can assist you. The problem is that we are only set up to handle so many customers per year with the amazing installers that we have. Unlike other stores, Floors For Living will not compromise on the quality installation that we provide by increasing our crews to a point where they are not properly trained. The information below is for the people that we cannot help with our Lifetime Guaranteed Installation. It will increase your odds of not getting scammed and assist you to find the right company to do your flooring replacement. It is not as much as what you want to look for but rather what you want to avoid. The further a store makes it down the elimination list the better your chances of getting an installation that you can live with.

Purchasing the Product - Process of Elimination

Eliminator #1 DO NOT PURCHASE FLOORING FROM A CONTRACTOR. Most floorings have warranties from 20 years to a lifetime. If you buy from a contractor the warranty is their name and not yours. You have no product warranty. Eliminator #2 DO NOT PURCHASE FROM A STORE THAT IS LESS THAN 2 YEARS OLD. Many stores will open up overnight and be gone as soon as the business dries up. You will lose your warranty because the purchasing information will be lost when the store goes under.

Purchasing the Installation - Process of Elimination

Eliminator #3 DO NOT HAVE A CONTRACTOR INSTALL YOUR FLOORING. They may be the jack of all trades; however, they probably are not the master of flooring installation. Just because they say that they can install something doesn’t mean they can do it correctly. WE ARE ALREADY REPLACING MANY CONTRACTORS WORK FROM THE FLOOD. Examples: Laminate being glued down and warping up. Carpet with 3” gaps in the doorways because they didn’t know how to seam. Tile installation failing because they used wood glue instead of thin set. Eliminator #4 DO NOT SIGN AN OPEN ORDER. (Open Order an order that can change once the job begins) Many stores will not give you the final price until they start the installation. The most common of these is the float/leveling scam. Leveling the floor properly so that a proper job can be done is part of a normal installation and should be part of the original charge. A store in Pearland charges $85 per bag or up to $2.83 extra per foot once the job begins. Another Houston store charged $2,500 for the flooring and the installation. Once the job began they were scammed an extra $2500 for leveling. Because they signed an OPEN ORDER they ended up paying $1,500 more than Floors For Living was charging. Protect yourself. DEMAND A CLOSED ORDER OR WALK AWAY (Closed Order - an order that cannot change once the job begins) Eliminator #5 DO NOT ACCEPT AN INFERIOR WARRANTY. Because humans are not always perfect, you may need a repair or even a replacement to fix improper installation. Whether the installation warranty is 6 months or a lifetime; most store (including the box stores) DO NOT cover the material to complete the repair. They only cover the labor. If your job is $10,000 the labor charge may only be $2,000. Because of this inferior warranty, it will cost you $8,000 to get the improper installation fixed. You must read the small print. VERIFY THAT THE WARRANTY COVERS BOTH THE INSTALLATION AND THE PRODUCT TO DO THE REPAIR. For more information on how to make your right decision we have videos and downloads at www.FloorsForLiving.com. These will educate you on what to look for and demand from an installer. While the installer will be gone quickly, you will have to live for a long time with the consequences of their skill level and installation product decisions. I hope that this information will help you to make a better decision through this stressful and difficult time. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me directly. Sincerely, Kurt Duitsman President/Owner
