A Christmas concert for the community

Come carols, enjoy more a free carols, Christmas and the concert melodic of beauty of Puccini, on Sunday, Dec. 17, at 6 p.m. by Memorial Drive Presbyteri­an Church’s Sanctuary Choir and a profession­al orchestra, under the direction of Charles Hausmann. They will present two suites from “The Many Moods of Christmas” by Robert Shaw and Richard Russell Bennett with such beloved carols as “What Child Is This,” “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing,” “Bring a Torch, Jeanette, Isabella,” and “Angels We Have Heard on High.” The festive evening continues with a sacred work by the Italian opera composer Giacomo Puccini, who wrote the popular secular operas “La Boheme,” “Tosca” and “Madame Butterfly.” In addition, the audience will have an opportunit­y to sing “O Come, All Ye Faithful” and “The First Noel” with the choir and orchestra. Free childcare is available by reservatio­n (emailchild­care@mdpc.org). One week later, on Dec. 24, Memorial Drive Presbyteri­an Church invites you to celebrate Christmas Eve at one of three candleligh­t services complete with a chamber music orchestra. It will be a reverentia­l yet joyous evening. Services are at 5:30 p.m., 7 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. Memorial Drive Presbyteri­an Church is at 11612 Memorial Drive at Blalock.
