May 11, 1917 – December 11, 2017 Elaine Gloria Hardin Thomas passed away on December 11, 2017. Elaine was born on May 11, 1917 to Rose Christian Hardin and Robert Augustus Hardin in Port Arthur, Texas. The family soon moved to Houston where her mother Rose grew up, on property in the Heights that was still owned by Elaine at the time of her passing.

Elaine graduated from John H. Reagan High School in 1935, then attended University of Houston. While working at the Federal Land Bank in downtown Houston, she met Robert Carroll Thomas and they married on February 14, 1941. Together they raised three sons, Robert, John and Duane. She was a devoted wife and mother who exhibited a true Christian spirit of caring and giving throughout her entire life. She was kind to everyone she came in contact with, but especially loved her family and considered them her greatest passion in life.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Carroll Thomas, her parents, Rose and Robert Hardin and her only sister, June Hardin Painter.

She is survived by her sons, Robert Hardin Thomas and wife, Lisa; John Carroll Thomas and wife, Suzanne; and Duane Allen Thomas and wife, Phyllis; grandchild­ren, Dustin Thomas and wife, Meghan; Ryan Thomas and wife, Katie; Hayley Thomas Scotti and husband, Chris; Cardo Walthall and wife, Ashley; Clay Thomas and wife, Anna; Catherine Thomas Bucholz and husband, Ethan; April Miller and husband, Paul; and Krystal Strack and husband, Eddy. She also leaves behind her great grandchild­ren, Dustin Thomas, Jr., Lily Thomas, Annie Rose Thomas, Gloria Thomas, Maggie Thomas, Christian Thomas, Ryder Thomas, Thomas Scotti, Carley Walthall, Ryker Walthall, Ford Thomas, Hadley Miller, Benjamin Miller, Douglas Miller and Harper Rose Miller. She is also survived by cousin Sandra Barlion and numerous other cousins and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday, December 28, 2017 at Heights Presbyteri­an Church, 240 W. 18th St. Houston, Texas, 77008. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Presbyteri­an Children’s Home, P.O. Box 140888, Austin, Texas, 78714.
