Harris’ big game leads UH to win over Tulane

NEW ORLEANS — Jasmyne Harris had 34 points and 11 rebounds to help power Houston to a 98-92 double-overtime victory over Tulane on Saturday.

Harris, who also finished with a team-high eight assists, led four Cougars scoring in double figures. Serithia Hawkins also had a double-double, scoring a career-best 25 points and pulling down 10 rebounds. Octavia Barnes and Dorian Branch added 14 and 13 points, respective­ly.

Two free throws by Hawkins with 19 seconds remaining in regulation tied the game at 80, but the Green Wave (9-7, 1-2) had a chance to win it, but Kolby Morgan’s layup as time expired was no good, sending the game to overtime.

Houston (14-3, 3-0 American Athletic Conference) totaled 71 points in the second half and overtime after scoring 27 in the first half. BAYLOR 83, KANSAS 48

Kalani Brown scored 22 points, and Dekeiya Cohen had 15 to help the sixth-ranked Lady Bears rout the Jayhawks at Lawrence, Kan., for their 11th consecutiv­e victory.

Baylor’s Big 12-best defense smothered Kansas, limiting the Jayhawks to 28.6 percent shooting.

Lauren Cox added 11 points and 10 rebounds, and Cohen had eight rebounds for Baylor (14-1, 4-0).

Shala Dobbins scored a gamehigh 32 points to lift the Lady Panthers to a victory over the Lady Tigers at the H&PE Arena.

Dobbins was 9-of-24 from the field and 14-of-17 from the foul line.

Joyce Kennerson scored 30 points for TSU (6-8, 1-2). Breasia McElrath contribute­d 10 points and eight rebounds for the Lady Tigers, who got to within 58-56 in the final minute before Prairie View (4-10, 2-1) pulled away. NICHOLLS ST. 73 HOUSTON BAPTIST 61

Cassidy Barrios led the way with 24 points and 20 rebounds as the Colonels broke open up a back-and-forth game with a 14-0 run late in the game to coast past the Huskies at Sharp Gym.

Napheesa Collier had 25 points and 11 rebounds as the top-ranked Huskies remained unbeaten with an easy victory over the Bulls at Tampa, Fla.

Connecituc­t (13-0, 3-0 American Athletic) never trailed, shooting 54 percent from the field and hitting the century mark for the fourth time this season while playing stifling defense in holding South Florida star Kitija Laksa scoreless.
