Dr. Mike Gibson, of Houston, Texas passed away on Tuesday, the 9th of January in Houston. “To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.” 2 Corinthian­s 5:8

Mike was born in Freer, Texas on December 21, 1935, in a Sun Oil Pipeline camp. The eldest son of Charles and Eloise Gibson, Mike graduated from Snyder High School and attended several colleges in Texas, including Texas Tech. Because of his father’s career the family lived in many cities during his childhood. Following college, Mike pursued his DDS at the University of Texas Dental School and the University of Missouri Kansas City School of Orthodonti­cs. He practiced orthodonti­cs in Houston for 53 years.

Mike was an avid snow skier, water skier, tennis player and golfer. He also loved to fish. Along with his wife, Peggye Jane, he enjoyed traveling to many countries and throughout the United States. Cruises were his favorite! Mike was a member of the Rotary Club of Houston Heights where he served in multiple leadership roles. He was the youngest ever District 5890 Governor. He was a Rotary Internatio­nal President’s Representa­tive and a member of the Bequest Society. Mike was a Lifetime Committee Member of The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo and chaired the Special Children’s Committee for three years.

Mike loved his church, Second Baptist Church, and the Perfect Peace Bible Study class where he formed many close friendship­s. He and Peggye Jane greatly enjoyed spending time with family and local friends at their ranch in East Texas.

Mike is predecease­d by his first wife, Margaret Gibson. Mike is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Peggye Jane; by daughters, Kelly Gibson and daughter, Rachel; Allison Montgomery and husband, Bart, and their daughter, Morgan; Shannon Gibson; Debbie Autenreith and daughter Ava and son, Mitch; and Betsy Dees. He is also survived by brothers Pat Gibson and Robert Gibson. Many nieces and nephews and cousins will miss Mike dearly. Mike will always be remembered for his kindness, generous spirit, compassion, gentleness and humor, as well as for his love for his family and friends. We will all miss him every day until we are reunited with him in Heaven; but thanks be to God, Mike is finally in that Heavenly Home!

A memorial service and Celebratio­n of Life will be conducted at Second Baptist Church, 6400 Woodway Dr., Houston, in the Sanctuary at 11:00 a.m., Monday, January 15, followed by a reception in the Deacons’ Parlor.
