A man authorities say beat and threatened a woman he trafficked from Wisconsin died early Saturday after a confrontation with a good Samaritan offering to help the woman escape her alleged captor.

Houston police said they responded at about 2:30 a.m. to a report of a dead man in the road in the 14500 block of Hempstead near Jersey Village.

According to police officers, the man was a pimp. Before he died, they said, witnesses saw the man beating a woman at a nightclub off Hempstead.

Police said the woman walked off, and the man followed.

That’s when a good Samaritan drove by and stopped to help the woman, said police, who gave the following account:

The man and the good Samaritan started arguing, but the man told the Samaritan he had a gun. After the man reached into his waistband to retrieve a weapon, the Samaritan got back in his truck to drive off.

As the truck began to pull away, the woman attempted to jump into the moving vehicle. The man grabbed her, and both were thrown to the ground. The man smacked his head on the roadway as he fell.

According to police officers, the man died on the side of the road. The woman was taken to a hospital in stable condition.

The driver fled. Police are asking that he contact them so he can provide his account of the incident.
