Madge West Jones, 91, of Houston, died Monday, January 15, 2018, at Houston Hospice from complicati­ons following a stroke.

Born in Houston on August 24, 1926 to Stonewall Jackson West and Felice Lucy West, Madge was a life-long Houstonian. She graduated from San Jacinto High School in 1944 and earned a bachelor of arts from Rice University in 1946. Madge married her high school sweetheart, Thomas Frederick “Fred” Jones, Jr, on June 21, 1947 at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church.

Madge and Fred worshipped at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church for more than 60 years. They were early members of the Houston Racquet Club where Madge was an avid tennis player. She was a long-time docent for Bayou Bend, a member and past president of the Owen Wister Literary Society (OWLS), and a member of the River Oaks Rose Club.

Madge was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and a brother, Stonewall Jackson West, Jr. She is survived by her daughter, Kerby Jones Brown; her son, Thomas Frederick Jones, III and his wife, Penny Smith Jones; her son, David Colenswort­h Jones; seven grandchild­ren; and four great-grandchild­ren.

At the time of her death, Madge resided at the Hallmark. The family wishes to acknowledg­e the friendship and support she received from everyone at the Hallmark, especially her nurses and sitters, as well as the excellent care received in her final days at Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center and Houston Hospice.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, January 23rd at eleven o’clock in the morning in the chapel of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, 3471 Westheimer Road, 77027. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributi­ons be made to St. Luke’s United Methodist Church at the above address.
