THELMA POST MILLER

-

1915-2017

Thelma Post Miller, age 102, joined our Lord, December 29, 2017. A longtime resident of Houston, Thelma was born March 21, 1915 in Russell, Iowa where she met and married Carl A. Post. In their fifty-year marriage, they were blessed with two daughters and an exciting life of travel and living abroad. Carl was an engineer with Phillips Petroleum so they lived in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, Kansas City, Chicago, London and Antwerp, Belgium where Thelma found passions in foreign travel, art and collecting antiques. They retired in 1977 and chose Houston where they both were active in the Memorial Drive United Methodist Church. Carl died in 1987. Thelma remained active in taking art classes, ballroom dancing, and her loved PEO Chapter DF in Houston. At the age of 80 she married Alph Miller in 1996 and they had 11 happy years together. With unusual grace and elegance, Thelma remained positive and active well into her 90’s and celebrated life with a large family who deemed her the Matriarch. Family will testify that they almost never heard an unkind word ever spoken by her, which is an inspiration to each of them. Thelma was preceded in death by her two husbands and her oldest daughter, Jan Shapley and her husband Fred Shapley. She is survived by her youngest daughter, Beth Hammack and husband Jim of Oklahoma City and their children Hunter Wright, wife Deon, Elizabeth Dregits, husband Chris, all of Austin, Texas, and Jamie Nix, husband Tucker, of Tulsa, OK and six great grandsons. She is also survived by her grandson Robert Shapley of Durango, CO. Services will be held on Friday, January 26 at 2:00 p.m. at Memorial Drive United Methodist Church, 12955 Memorial Drive in Houston.
