PHYLLIS KEYES BYWATERS SINGER

1939-2018

Phyllis Keyes Bywaters Singer was born in Dallas, Texas, on the 5th of July 1939. Phyllis was the only child of Joseph and Pauline Miller Bywaters. Phyllis passed away on Wednesday, the 17th of January 2018, in Houston, Texas.

Phyllis attended Hockaday School in Dallas, and was Salutatorian of her Highland Park High School class. She graduated from Wellesley College with a degree in Liberal Arts. She continued at Southern Methodist University, and graduated with a Juris Doctor degree. Phyllis worked as an attorney with Bracewell and Patterson and Service Corporation International.

Phyllis married Arnold Morton Singer on the 23rd of May 1992. They shared 23 happy years together until Arnold’s death in 2015. Her family included stepchildren Lisa Kelly, Susan Kerschner, Jacqueline Singer and Reagan Singer. Phyllis had a special place in her heart for her grandchildren Matthew Kelly, Elise Kelly, Colin Kelly, Grayson Singer and Paige Singer.

Phyllis loved traveling the world, seeing many interesting places over the years. Her trips to Africa and China were highlights of her adventures. She and Arnold enjoyed summers in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Phyllis was a longtime Patron of the Houston Grand Opera, and a supporter of the Santa Fe Opera.

Friends are cordially invited to gather and share remembrances of Phyllis from six o’clock until eight o’clock in the evening on Tuesday, the 30th of January, in the grand foyer of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.

A memorial service is to be conducted at ten o’clock in the morning on Wednesday, the 31st of January, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons. Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception to be held in the adjacent grand foyer.

In July, family and friends are to gather and celebrate her life with a scattering of ashes in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Santa Fe was an incredibly special place to Phyllis and Arnold, with the family celebrating Arnold’s life in the same way after his death in 2015.
