Barbara Jo Nash died suddenly on January 24, 2018 in Durango, Colorado. She was 81. She was in good health but contracted viral pneumonia and passed away within a very few days. She was predecease­d by her mother Isabel Stratton (Stratt) Nash, her stepfather Boyd Nash, and tragically her son Danny Middleton and George Dawkins. She is survived by her other two children Robert Middleton and wife Michelle of Durango; Angela Middleton of Dallas and the children’s father Jim Middleton of Dallas. Also, brothers Bob Nash of Pilot Point and Bill Nash of New Braunfels. Grand children Makiah and Emily Wilmes of Dallas and Garrett Middleton of Durango. Nieces and nephews Heather Nash of Vancouver, Wa, Eric Nash of New Braunfels and Greg Nash of Spring Branch. Also, George’s children Tanya, Bob and Don Dawkins.

Barbara was an amazing person growing up in Houston. She attended Lamar High School where, in her senior year, she was Queen of the May Fete, most beautiful, cheerleade­r for the 1953 state champion football team, and graduated in the top ten of her class. She attended Rice University.

In 1960, she married the father of her children, Jim Middleton. They lived in Lafayette, Dallas, Grand Junction and Los Angeles.

She returned to Houston in 1973, where she raised her children and was involved in various businesses in Houston and Austin. In 1976, she married George Dawkins who was a big part of the kids life from ‘76 to ‘87. In 2002, she moved to Grand Junction and ultimately to Durango. During her final years in Durango, she became firmly establishe­d in the local AA community and being sponsors for many people. Barbara gained a love for Mexico in her early years. Beginning with Puerto Vallarta in the ‘50’s and ultimately Ajijic. Barbara was a great lady and will be missed. Robert is making plans for a “Celebratio­n of Life” in Houston and Durango.
