Sherman finds home with 49ers

Cornerback Richard Sherman agreed to a three-year deal with the San Francisco 49ers a day after being released by the rival Seattle Seahawks. Sherman confirmed in a text message that he agreed to the contract after spending the day meeting with the team. ESPN reported that Sherman’s deal is worth up to $39.15 million. … A day after locking up her second consecutiv­e World Cup overall championsh­ip, American Mikaela Shiffrin secured her fifth season title in the slalom at Ofterschwa­ng, Germany. Shiffrin formally won the discipline title as soon as Petra Vlhova, the only remaining challenger, failed to get the top-two result that the Slovakian skier needed in the penultimat­e event of the season. But Shiffrin wrapped up the title in style by winning the race, edging Wendy Holdener of Switzerlan­d by 0.09 seconds. … Thomas Dressen won a men’s World Cup downhill race at Kvitfjell, Norway, less than two months after he became the first German winner in the discipline in 13 years. …

Bolt d’Oro won the $400,000 San Felipe Stakes — the biggest Kentucky Derby prep race of the day — after even-money favorite McKinzie was disqualifi­ed for interferen­ce in heavy drizzle at Santa Anita in Arcadia, Calif. Bolt d’Oro earned 50 points in the system used by Churchill Downs to determine the 20-horse field for the Derby. That moves the colt to the top of the standings with 64 points. … Enticed took the lead at the sixteenth pole and went on to a 2¾-length win in the $300,000 Gotham Stakes at Aqueduct in New York. … Quip won the $400,000 Tampa Bay Derby by a length over Flameaway.
