BILL WAYNE

1940-2018

-

Bill Wayne, 77, died March 21st at his home in Montecito, California,. It was in that town that Bill and his late wife Marsha raised their four children and where, in addition to business, he devoted himself to philanthropic endeavors and political activity. He treasured his many friends and spent hours with them on the golf course and at bridge. Although traveling extensively with Marsha, he always enjoyed working with companies around the country that he would advise, guide, and help restructure. He enjoyed opera and tennis, but he truly loved the art of business.

Bill was born in Louisville, Kentucky to Cecil and Eddie Wayne. The family soon grew to include Helaine, Eddie Jr., and Bobby. They moved several times but in 1954 they permanently settled in Houston. Bill graduated from Bellaire High School, The University of Texas where he was a member of Phi Sigma Delta and the Silver Spurs, and the Harvard Business School.

In 1967 Bill’s daughter Hope was born and, with his wife Natalie, they moved to New York City. Following marriage to his second wife Marsha, the couple returned to Houston where Benjamin, Mandy, Cassie, and Willow were born. Shortly thereafter, the family moved to Montecito.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Marsha. He leaves behind his son Benjamin (Valerie), daughters Hope Rothschild (David), Mandy Dolan (Jake), Cassie Gibson (Andrew) and Willow Tuley, and grandchildren Juliette, Lila, Maya, Pearl, Madden, and Luella, as well as his sister Helaine Lane (David) and brothers Ed Wayne, Jr. (Tanja) and Bobby Wayne.

Bill was blessed with the company of kind and loving people including his assistant Diana Cuttrell, his wonderful caregiver Angela Burns, and housekeeper Arcelia Aguiniga.

A memorial service will be held in Montecito in May. Those wishing to make a contribution in Bill’s memory may choose Kids’ Meals c/o The Edward Wayne Hunger Fund at Congregation Emanu El, 1500 Sunset Blvd., Houston, Texas 77005 or the charity of your choice.
