Carlos Broughton of Houston, TX went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, the 27th of March 2018. He was born in Dubach, LA on the 8th of April 1926, the son of Charlie J. and Allie Poland Broughton.

He finished Dubach High School, Dubach, LA in 1943. He worked as a constructi­on welder in TX and AR before serving stateside in the US Army from 1945 until 1947. After his military service he did pipeline welding in LA, MS, TX, IA, WV, KY, OH and PA, even during the summers while going to college. He graduated from Southweste­rn Louisiana Institute, Lafayette, LA in 1953 with a BS degree in business. He worked for a short time with Magnolia Petroleum and then went to work for The Offshore Company, Baton Rouge, LA in July 1954. He had assignment­s with increasing responsibi­lities in Venezuela; Trinidad; Rome, Italy; Nigeria; London, England and Houston, TX. His last 8 years with The Offshore Company in Houston, he was vice-president over sales and contracts worldwide. In 1977 he left The Offshore Co. to start his own drilling business, Broughton Offshore and Broughton Drilling with two rigs, Broughton I and Broughton II. He purchased a 4-leg jack-up rig in 1987, which he named Mr. Bice after Doyle Bice, his vicepresid­ent. He retired from the drilling business in 2000. He enjoyed golf, vacations with his wife Mary Angela and elk hunting with his brother Jimmy and friends.

Carlos is survived by his wife of 32 years, Mary Angela Saragusa Broughton and children, Paul K. Broughton, Rocky J. Navarro, Joseph A. Navarro and wife, Stacia, Suzanne Navarro Hardman and husband, Clayton; five grandchild­ren, Paul Kent Broughton II, Summer Pousman, Max Pousman, Tiffany Navarro and Antonia Navarro; a brother, Jimmy Broughton and wife, Ann; a brother-in-law, Thomas Colvin; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by brothers, Harold Broughton and Hershall Broughton; sisters, Vera B. McCurry, Dorothy Rose Broughton and Patsy B. Colvin.

His family is grateful for the care, friendship, love and grace provided by his caregivers, Kim Daniel, Shanell Vokeng, Avonna Holden, Leyana Holden, Robert Umwoma, Rafael Urias, and Houston Hospice.

Those honored to serve as casket bearers during Thursday’s service are Paul Kent Broughton II, David Broughton, Max Pousman, Lonnie McCurry, Clayton Hardman, Karl Royer, Danny Bice and David Bice.

Honorary pallbearer­s are Paul K. Broughton, Jimmy Broughton, Rocky J. Navarro, Joseph A. Navarro, Harry Cullen, Sr., Doyle Bice and Glynn Smith.

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from three o’clock in the afternoon until six o’clock in the evening on Wednesday, the 4th of April, in the parlor and grand foyer of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.

The funeral mass is to be offered at ten o’clock in the morning on Thursday, the 5th of April, at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 1801 Sage Road in Houston, where the Rev. Wayne W. Wilkerson, Pastor, is to serve as celebrant.

The entombment will follow, via an escorted cortege, at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery in Houston.

In lieu of customary remembranc­es, the family requests memorial contributi­ons to be directed in Carlos’ name to the Discalced Carmelite Nuns, 1100 Parthenon Place, New Caney, TX 77357; or to the charity of one’s choice.
