BERTHA ROSA COSSEY

1929-2018

-

Bertha Rosa Cossey, 88 earned her wings and flew on to glory to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 27, 2018.

Bertha led a life of what many might consider adventure and had many great stories to tell. She was born in El Salvador, C.A. to Rosa Rivas Cevallos and Friedrich Wilhelm Barrow. After residing in El Salvador, the family moved to Honduras where her brother, Fritz, contracted polio. Her father moved the family to Germany so Fritz could receive the best medical treatment available. From Germany they moved to Africa, where Friedrich had a coffee plantation, then known as Spanish Guinea (now known as Equatorial Guinea).

When WWII broke out, the family left to return to Germany. After the war, Bertha, her mother and two brothers returned to El Salvador and later, she moved to The United States. While working in Houston, TX, she met her future husband, Billy Cossey. They made their home in Houston where they eventually welcomed two daughters into the family. Always the life of the party, Bertha loved big band and polka music and loved to dance. Her daughters have many fond memories of her moving the furniture and teaching them to waltz.

She is survived by her husband, Billy Cossey, daughters Martha (Danny) Alexander and Berta (Chris) Keeney, four grandchildren, Micah and Tess Alexander and Alejandrina and Andrea Keeney and several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Rosa and Wilhelm and her brothers, Augustin “Augus” and Friedrich “Fritz”.

Funeral arrangements will be provided by Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home, 10129 FM 1097 W, Willis, TX.

Funeral service and interment will be at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, April 2, 2018 at Cook-Walden Cemetery, 14501 Interstate 35, Pflugerville, TX. You are invited to leave a written condolence on our website at www.shmfh. com.
