-

Kenneth F. Kowis, 56, a native Houstonian, passed away on March 29, 2018. Ken attended Christ the King grade school, St. Thomas High School, Class of ’79 and the University of St. Thomas, Class of ’83. His family owned and operated K & K Food Market in the Heights for many years. He worked as an Accountant at Grocer’s Supply Co., Randall’s, Carriage Services, and most recently at Air Liquide.

Ken spent countless hours volunteering at Saint Arnold’s Brewery where his love of people and beer came together. A life-long Astros and baseball fan, he also pitched in a local softball league for many years. He was loyal to the Astros through thick and thin. At 4 years old, he was the youngest member of the Rusty Staub Fan Club. For all these reasons and more, it came as no surprise when Ken died on the 2018 Astros Opening Day and the same day as his childhood hero, Rusty Staub.

Ken is preceded in death by his father, Joe Kowis Jr., and brother Douglas Kowis. Survived by his mother, Betty Ann Martin Kowis, sister, Lanette Kowis, nephew and wife, Jeremy and Leanne Kowis, great nieces, Libby and Maisie, sister-in-law, Lucy Kowis and his life-long best friend, Mike Watkins.

Ken’s family will receive friends in The Hunters Creek Chapel at Earthman Funeral Directors, 8303 Katy Frwy., Houston, TX from 5:00 – 9:00 pm on Tuesday, April 3, 2018, where the rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at 9:30 am at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, 4213 Mangum Rd., Houston, TX. Interment to follow at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery.

If desired, memorial contributions may be directed to St. Thomas High School, 4500 Memorial Dr., Houston, TX. 77007 or Incarnate Word Academy, 609 Crawford, Houston, TX. 77002.
