L. GRESHAM “HUTCH” HUTCHINGS, JR.

L. Gresham “Hutch” Hutchings, Jr. died on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at his home in Kingwood, Texas, surrounded by his family. He was born on June 12, 1930.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Luther Gresham Hutchings and Evelyn Covert Hutchings. He was born in Norfolk, Virginia, graduated from Maury High School in 1949, and attended the Division of William and Mary College in Norfolk, VA. He began his sales career with Armour and Company and joined Reynolds Metals Company in 1955. He and his wife, Lynette, transferre­d to Kingwood, Texas in 1977 and were one of the earliest residents of the Livable Forest.

Following his retirement from his career as a district sales manager for Reynolds Metals Company, Hutch became active with the Men’s Golf Associatio­n at Kingwood Country Club, where he served as a president. He was a member of the board of directors of Kingwood County Club. He and good friend, Lande Hoffman, ran the MGA’s King’s Ransom golf tournament for many years.

Hutch had been actively involved with the game of golf since 1954 when he lived in Virginia Beach, Virginia. He was associated with the Virginia Beach Open and was involved with the Williamsbu­rg Golden Horseshoe Tournament, the US Kids World Championsh­ip of 9- and 10-year-olds. His long list of involvemen­t with golf includes working at three U.S. Opens, 3 PGA Tournament­s, the TPC at Ponte Verde, and the Masters. Hutch was happiest when he was able to promote the game of golf, especially junior golf. He worked countless hours yearround with the American Junior Golf Associatio­n and US Kids Golf.

He was a member of the Masonic Owens Lodge No. 164 in Norfolk, Virginia. He was an active member of the Kedive Temple Shriners of Norfolk, Virginia and received a 60-year pin for his service.

He most recently served four years as a volunteer ambassador at George Bush Internatio­nal Airport.

He leaves behind his wife of 58 years, Lynette Twiford Hutchings; three children: Karl Gresham Hutchings of Alberta, Virginia, Colette Hutchings Dean and husband, Dr. John (Andy) Dean, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and Stephanie Hutchings Johnson, of Tampa, Florida; three grandchild­ren: Kelsey Dean Griffith and husband, Launey Patton Griffith, Carter Gresham Dean, and Riley Anderson Dean; great-grandson, Thompson Dean Griffith; and brother, Paul Franklin Hutchings.

Hutch will be greatly missed by the many friends and colleagues he touched with his life. He had a zest for life, a quick wit, and never met a stranger.

Friends and family are invited to a Celebratio­n of Life on Monday, April 16, 2018 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Kingwood Country Club’s Lakeside Terrace (1700 Lake Kingwood Trail, Kingwood, TX).

Hutch participat­ed in the Willed Body Program at the University of Texas’ McGovern Medical School to donate his remains for medical education.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributi­ons can be made to the US Kids Golf Foundation (uskidsgolf­foundation.org) or the Shriners Hospital for Children (shrinersho­spitalforc­hildren.org)

The family would like to thank the staff at Kingwood Fire Station 101, Memorial Hermann Hospice, and Right at Home In-Home Care and Assistance for their kindness and compassion.
