Huey Cleveland Keeney, Jr., beloved father, brother, mentor and friend, passed away before sunrise on Easter Sunday, April 1, 2018, and transitioned immediately from this life into the heavenly presence of his resurrected Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Huey was a 42-year resident of Tyler, Texas until moving earlier this year to Lago Vista, Texas to spend his final days with his daughters. Huey was born on February 22, 1951 in Houston, Texas to Huey Cleveland and Lucile Vennard Keeney. Huey graduated from Houston’s Robert E. Lee High School in 1969, attended Tulane University for one year and graduated from The University of Texas at Austin with honors in 1973, and graduated from The University of Texas School of Law in 1976. In college, Huey was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon social fraternity. Upon graduation from law school, Huey moved to Tyler, Texas where he began his legal career. Except for his first year of law practice as an Assistant District Attorney of Smith County, Huey’s law practice was focused primarily on real estate law. Huey’s favorite hobbies included hunting, playing golf with his friends, and collecting antiques and other collectibles. Above all, Huey was passionate about Jesus Christ. In keeping with Ephesians 2:8-10 and numerous other Bible verses, Huey placed his faith and trust in Jesus Christ alone for his salvation and eternal life in October, 1974 and loved telling others about Jesus Christ for the rest of his life. Huey spoke to large groups, led many small Bible studies and mentored many men in God’s Word. Huey invested his time, wisdom and love into these men, and many of them, in turn, felt that Huey was like a father or brother to them. The deepest loves of Huey’s life were his twin daughters, Caitlin and Courtney. Sweet and good-natured, they blessed their dad in so many ways, including their willingness to accompany him on many hunts and many trips to antique shops and estate sales.

Huey was preceded in death by his parents. Huey is survived by his daughters, Caitlin Fields Keeney and Courtney Judice Keeney of Lago Vista, Texas. Huey is also survived by his brother, Randolph Vennard Keeney and his wife, Sandy, and their three children, Randolph V. Keeney, Jr. (Brooke) and Kimberly M. Wood (Jake), all of Houston, Texas, and Catherine H. Keeney of Austin, Texas. Additional survivors include seven greatnieces and great-nephews and numerous cousins.

A memorial service to celebrate Huey’s life and personal relationship with Jesus Christ will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 20, 2018, at Green Acres Baptist ChurchSouth, 1010 CR 137, Tyler, Texas. Huey’s dear friends, Pastors James Jones, Jason Shepperd and Boogie Wynn, will officiate the service. In lieu of flowers and memorial contributions, it was Huey’s desire on this earth, and even more so now in the glorious presence of Jesus Christ, that those desiring to honor his memory who personally know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior would in their hearts rededicate their lives and reaffirm their commitment to Jesus Christ and that those who do not personally know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior would in their hearts place their faith and trust in Jesus Christ alone for their salvation and eternal life.
