Katy-area family wins HomeAid’s Project Playhouse

-

On June 27, a crowd of Houston Astros’ fans gathered at Section 150 on the concourse level of Minute Maid Park to learn the winner of HomeAid Houston’s 12th annual Project Playhouse. The “School House of Inspiration” was built by Ashton Woods. Gregory Janik, vice president of operations Ashton Woods Houston Division, alongside Paul Sims, president of Ashton Woods, drew the winning ticket.

Lacy and Chad Hamilton of Katy will be bringing the playhouse home for their two young sons, Elijah and Zeke and their friends.

“I was so shocked to learn we had won the playhouse,” said Lacy Hamilton. “I knew that this was a fundraiser for HomeAid Houston, a great way to give back to the community. And its fun design with so many creative features, will make me the cool mom on the block.”

HomeAid Houston’s 2018 Project Playhouse was a World Series performance this year as the event raised nearly $100,000 for Houston’s mission — “to build new lives for homeless families and individuals through housing and community outreach”.

Ashton Woods’ design included double Dutch doors, operable windows, a cupola with a school bell, a built-on swing, air conditioning, a flat screen TV and gaming console and child sized furniture and decor to match the schoolhouse theme.

“Constructing HomeAid Houston’s Project Playhouse has been a tremendous opportunity for Ashton Woods to help raise both awareness and valuable funds to help Houston’s homeless,” said Paul Sims. “Our ‘School House of Inspiration’ design was meant to encourage children of all ages the joy in learning new things, whether from books or games or just playing with friends. We thank HomeAid, the Houston Astros and the Astros Foundation for allowing us to be partners on such a unique and rewarding project, and a big congratulations to the Hamilton family.”

The Aston Woods team also included George Sanchez, product development manager; Kendra Lewis, marketing manager and Amy Ross, design studio manager.

“Working with Ashton Woods on the playhouse over the past year, has been a tremendous experience and opportunity to get to know their professional organization,” said Bette Moser, executive director of HomeAid. “Their commitment to making this a successful year for Project Playhouse was awe-inspiring. We cannot thank them and all of their sponsors enough for all they have done to help the homeless of Houston.”

HomeAid is a 501 (c)(3) charity of the Greater Houston Builders Association. The agency was started in 2003, and the first shelter was dedicated in 2005. Since then, 48 projects have been completed, adding nearly 500 beds and 12.6 million dollars in real estate construction and improvements to Houston’s homeless community. Annually, HomeAid’s projects serve more than 5,000 homeless men, women, children and veterans in Houston.
