Eovaldi, Red Sox topple Yankees

BOSTON — Nathan Eovaldi pitched eight strong innings, striking out four and walking one, and closer Craig Kimbrel held on in the ninth to help the Boston Red Sox beat the Yankees for the third game in a row with a 4-1 victory on Saturday.

One night after Rick Porcello threw an 86-pitch, one-hit complete game, Eovaldi shut out the Yankees on three hits, sending them to a fourth straight loss.

INDIANS 3, ANGELS 0: Corey Kluber pitched a threehitte­r for his first shutout this season, leading Cleveland to a win over visiting Los Angeles.

REDS-NATIONALS SPLIT: Phillip Ervin hit a three-run homer, and visiting Cincinnati snapped a three-game losing streak in the first game of a doublehead­er 7-1. In the second game, slugger Bryce Harper was forced to leave soon after being hit by a pitch in the right kneecap, but Washington still rebounded with a 6-2 win.

ATHLETICS 2, TIGERS 1: Khris Davis hit his 30th home run and ninth since the All-Star break, and Oakland beat visiting Detroit for its fifth straight win.

CUBS 5, PADRES 4: Kyle Schwarber and Anthony Rizzo homered in a five-run second inning, and Chicago hung on from there to beat visiting San Diego.

WHITE SOX 2, RAYS 1: Tim Anderson scored on a throwing error on Leury Garcia's two-strike bunt in the ninth, and visiting Chicago won its third straight.

METS 3, BRAVES 0: Kevin Gausman was outpitched in his Atlanta debut by a Zack Wheeler, and his visiting team lost its five-game winning streak.

BREWERS 8, ROCKIES 2: Travis Shaw hit a grand slam during Milwaukee's six-run first inning, securing a win against visiting Colorado.

BLUE JAYS 5, MARINERS 1: Marco Estrada took a nohitter into the seventh, leading Toronto to a road win.

CARDINALS 8, PIRATES 4: Jedd Gyorko drove in three to lead St. Louis to a win at Pittsburgh.

PHILLIES 8, MARLINS 3: Carlos Santana had one of Philadelph­ia's four homers to lead a home win.

RANGERS 2, ORIOLES 0: Joey Gallo and Rougned Odor both homered, and Texas won at home.

TWINS 8, ROYALS 2: Max Kepler hit a two-run homer that put host Minnesota ahead to stay.

DIAMONDBAC­KS 9, GIANTS 3: Nick Ahmed homered twice and had four RBIs as Arizona won at home.
