A move to modern digs
The Alexander Group, an executive search firm, is settling in to its new home in the Upper Kirby District.
The Alexander Group has traded its Galleria offices for modern digs in Upper Kirby District.
The 35-year-old Houstonbased executive search firm has leased nearly 6,000 square feet on the eighth floor of Kirby Collection, a new mixed-use project of Thor Equities at 3200 Kirby Drive. The move was completed in July.
The office is outfitted with collaborative meeting spaces and, rather than open work areas, 18 workstations with “hot desking” technology. Associates, who are not assigned to specific desks, can log in at any workstation or work off campus, thanks to remote technology.
“Our team needed the flexibility to transition seamlessly from the road to the office to home,” Alexander Group managing director John Lamar said.
The location, between downtown and Greenway Plaza, is smaller but more central than its former offices at Galleria Tower I on Post Oak Boulevard. It’s close to restaurants and neighborhoods such as River Oaks.
“The way we work has changed. Our need for traditional office space decreased as our business shifted toward fewer, more personalized C-suite and board of director executive searches,” Lamar said. “Seven years ago, we leased close to 11,000 square feet of office space in Houston.”
Alexander Group, along with sister company Alex & Red, has 22 employees and contractors worldwide, including 13 in Houston. The company has conducted executive searches in the financial, human resources, sales and marketing, information technology, legal and other sectors.
The new office provides a kitchen with coffee bar, high-tech conference room, lounge area and access to a roof-top terrace. Floor-toceiling windows offer views of the city.
“We wanted our team to be energized and inspired by their work space,” Lamar said. “Kirby Collection helped us deliver on that.”
