Construction begins on HomeAid charity project in Spring Branch

-

HomeAid Houston and Gracewood, a Children at Heart Ministry, have forged a long-term relationship through the development and construction of transformational housing projects for single mothers and their children who need a safe haven from crisis situations. This partnership has resulted in the completion of five homes between two campuses in the Houston area.

A new project is underway on property recently acquired by Gracewood at the Spring Branch location. David Weekley Homes (DWH), is builder captain.

“We are excited to be partnering with Gracewood and David Weekley Homes on another project that will help Houston’s most vulnerable families,” said Carl Salazar, executive director of HomeAid Houston. “This ‘Next Step’ Project is a community of eight duplexes that will allow Gracewood mothers who have education goals, the ability to complete their education plan while remaining on our campus. At the same time, these mothers can continue to receive the support services of counseling, child care and friendship with other mothers and children that are key components to their success. Their children will not have to change schools and their routines remain consistent.”

The 2.5 acres that adjoin the current Gracewood campus will include the eight duplexes, Patti’s Place (a clothing boutique), a furniture warehouse, and a community center with both administrative offices and an activity center. The current administrative office will become a community counseling center.

This will be the sixth project that HomeAid Houston and Gracewood have partnered together on to help women and children.

“This entire team consisting of staff, builders and vendors display such a tremendous spirit of generosity that encourages families toward a hopeful future,” said Salazar.

Gracewood’s Spring Branch facility, located at 1617 Elmview Drive, currently provides three 6,000- to 7,000-plus-square-foot homes, each housing five families. The most recently completed home also provides administrative, support services and counseling offices.

The DWH home construction team is being led by Brian Underwood, Mark Welch and Nancy Reid. Mark Atkins with MASA Studio is the project's architect.

HomeAid Houston is a 501 (c)(3) charity of the Greater Houston Builders Association (GHBA).
