Stephen F. Austin too much for HBU

Jake Blumrick threw for two touchdowns and ran for another, and Stephen F. Austin won for the first time in four weeks, beating Houston Baptist 42-14 at Husky Field on Saturday night.

Josh McGowen rushed for 132 yards and caught two passes for 66 yards and a touchdown for the Lumberjack­s (2-5, 2-4 Southland Conference).

Bailey Zapp, who was sacked seven times, threw for 143 yards and two touchdowns for the Huskies (1-6, 0-5), who have lost six in a row.

Carlos Stephens returned a blocked punt 17 yards for a touchdown one minute into the game, and the Jaguars used that early momentum to defeat the Tigers at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas.

Texas Southern (1-6, 0-4 Southweste­rn Athletic Conference) went threeand-out on the game's first drive before Stephens cashed in on the blocked punt.

Ladarius Skelton finished a nine-play, 57-yard drive with a 4-yard run to give Southern (4-3, 3-1) a 14-0 lead with 9:30 left in the first quarter, and John Lampley threw 14 yards to Trey Smith to make it 21-0 late in the third quarter.

TSU’s only score came on Jay Christophe's 6-yard pass to Adrian Carter to complete a nine-play, 76yard drive with 8:52 left in the game.

LAMAR 41 SAM HOUSTON ST. 23

Darrel Colbert Jr. scored late in the second quarter and early in the third quarter as the Cardinals upset the Bearkats at Beaumont.

Lamar (3-4, 2-3 Southland Conference) was trailing 13-10 when Colbert scored on a 14-yard run to make it 17-13 lead with 2:55 remaining in the first half. On the first series of the third quarter, he capped an 82-yard drive with an 8yard scoring run to give the Cardinals a 24-13 lead.

Lamar made it 34-23 late in the third quarter on a 35-yard touchdown run by Wanza, who rushed for 168 yards and two touchdowns. Lamar totaled 435 yards rushing while limiting the Bearkats (4-3, 3-2) to 79 yards on the ground.
