KATHRYN S. HAMMETT

-

1968-2018

Kathryn Samantha Hammett (Kati) passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 26 in Austin, Texas, after complications from a stroke and brain aneurysm. Kati was born on June 15,1968.

After graduating from high school in Houston, Texas, Kati attended the Otis Parson’s School of Design in Los Angeles, The Art Institute of Houston and Cosmetology School in Houston. In 1990, Kati married Jeff L. Hammett on July 14, in Galveston, Texas and had two beautiful children, Dixie and Dashiell. She was an extremely devoted wife and mother.

Kati worked at Aziz and Bella Salon in Austin for many years and then with her husband, started an independent sales agency, Hammett Sales, LLC, which represents multiple action sports brands. In addition, Kati assisted in establishing their own clothing company, Nostalgic Rags in 2016.

Austin has been the city that Kati has embraced due to the live music, the vintage car scene, the tattoo culture and her wide array of friends. It was her love for music and community that led her to work with C3 Presents at ACL for over 10 years. She became an icon at the Austin Kiddie Limits Festival doing the “Tattooz Booth”. Children came back year after year just to get their photos taken with Kati. In recent years, she was employed doing airbrush tattoos for children at Lollapalooza Festival, as well.

Kati adored driving her vintage 1953 Mercury, affectionately named, “Medina”, after her Mother. She co-founded and was a proud member of the ‘The Fender Skirts’, a group of women in Austin who are commonly referred to as Austin’s Chica Custom Car Club.

Volunteering for her son’s football teams, being a sideline photographer, and decorating her children’s classrooms were just a few of the many things she enjoyed doing for her children. She was always the first to volunteer.

However, her legacy will forever be helping others in their time of need. Kati gave to people so unconditionally, that it was completely effortless. She affected people in a meaningful way because of her enormous heart and unforgettable quick wit.

Kati is preceded in death by her Grandparents, Robert and Karen Herbert and Paul, Bertha Martinez and Uncle Victor Martinez. Kati will be sadly missed by so many, but especially her husband of 28 years, Jeff L. Hammett, her daughter, Dixie Christina Nadine Hammett, and son Dashiell Otto Hammett; her parents, Peter Otto and Carolina Martinez Herbert, sister and brother-in-law, Carlie and (Keith) McClane, brother, Robert Herbert (III), Aunts, Samantha Brown and Angelina and (Fred) Cantu, and In-laws, Frances Kay Whitley and Jeffrey Wise Hammett. Kati is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and significant friends.

The family wants to thank the staff at Dell Seton Medical Center at The University of Texas for their compassion and genuine love in their care of Kati. They are forever grateful to each and every nurse who was steadfast in being angels during Kati’s care.
