1928-2018

Elizabeth Jane Schuler died peacefully on October 24, 2018. She was born on October 12, 1928, to Alban and Clara Michel in Cincinnati, Ohio. A devout Catholic throughout her life, she attended school at Mount Notre Dame Academy in Cincinnati. Her many friends from school gave her the lifelong nickname of Betty Jane or BJ. BJ graduated from high school in 1946 and attended nursing school. She graduated from nursing school and worked as a registered nurse for many years. While in nursing school, she met her beloved husband, Roger John Schuler. BJ and Roger married on January 21, 1950. Roger was in the insurance business and for the first sixteen years of their marriage, his work required the couple to move numerous times. BJ always enjoyed meeting new people and had wonderful friends in the many cities where they lived. Roger and BJ ultimately settled in Houston, Texas where they lived for eleven years. BJ gave up her career in nursing to raise their three children – Randy, Sherri and Laurie. BJ loved being a mother to her children and was always there to support and encourage them. She enjoyed volunteering at school, cheering her children on at sporting events, and celebrating holidays with them. In 1977, Roger and BJ moved to New Orleans to allow Roger to pursue a career opportunity. BJ fell in love with New Orleans and everything the city had to offer. Mardi Gras became one of her favorite holidays. She enjoyed attending parades and Mardi Gras balls and dressing in costume on Fat Tuesday. BJ embraced the unique character of New Orleans, from the delicious food to the amazing friends she made. In 1985, Roger and BJ retired in Lakeway, Texas, where BJ became an accomplished golf and tennis player. BJ could often be found talking with golfers who passed by their home. She was a friend to everyone and had an infectious spirit. She spent the last few years of her life living in Houston so she could be near her three children and their families. BJ is survived by Roger, her husband of 68 years, and her three children – her son Randy Schuler and his wife Kaye; daughter Sherri Schuler Dunken and her husband Terry; and daughter Laura Schuler Favaloro and her husband David. BJ is also survived by her four grandchildren – Trey Schuler (wife Kelsey); Dustin Schuler (wife Megan); Courtney Favaloro and Allison Favaloro; and by her four great-grandchildren. The family wishes to thank Benica Coleman, Shernail Christopher, and Tina Thomas for the incredible care and friendship they shared with BJ. A private mass for the family will be held at Emmaus Catholic Church in Lakeway, Texas to celebrate BJ’s life.
