Alma (Dusty) Yvonne West, 81, passed away at home surrounded by her beloved pets on October 25, 2018, after a courageous five-year battle against lung cancer. A lifelong Houstonian, Dusty worked until retirement at Geospace Technologi­es Corporatio­n as a purchasing agent. She enjoyed filling her life with service to others through volunteeri­ng for Angel Flight, supporting many area animal shelters, the Ronald McDonald house, and the Houston Zoo. She loved Margarita Mondays, lunch with the 80s Ladies, card game parties with friends, Houston Comets basketball, golfing and boat rides on the bay. She was preceded in death by partner, Helen Cathcart; mother and father, Alma and Harvey West; sister, Marjie Waltmon; nephews, Johnny Waltmon, Kenneth West, and Allen West; and best friend Kiki Santikos. She is survived by her brother, Harvey J. West & wife Lenelle; brother-inlaw, Lynn Waltmon; niece, Jeanelle Gunn & husband David; nephews, Gregory West & wife Jill, and Michael Waltmon; numerous great nieces and nephews; pets Goldie, Wesley, Hildie, Scooter and Bubba. Her family would like to express our sincere gratitude to Dr. George Simon and his staff at MD Anderson Cancer Center. Special thanks to Carmen Johnson for her lifelong friendship and unending support and counsel during Dusty’s illness, as well as, dear friends June Dossat, Karyn Compton, Shawn Cabellero and Lynn Wooten. A celebratio­n of Dusty’s life will be held at Bradshaw Carter Funeral and Memorial Services on November 1, 2018 with visitation beginning at 12:00 pm, and memorial service at 1:00 pm, with reception following the service. In lieu of customary remembranc­es, please consider donating to local animal shelters or MD Anderson Cancer Center.
