- By Lisa Zapalac CORRESPONDENT

A City of Houston Landmark listed in the National Register of Historic Places by the United

States Department of the Interior, the home is in a gated enclave in the heart of the Museum District.

Just minutes from the Texas Medical Center, the home, built in 1920 in the West Eleventh Place Historic District, is described by listing agent Terrell Hillebrand of Carnan Properties Houston LLC as a historic gem.

The gated-accessed grounds include a sculptured rose garden, a covered patio, a stunningly landscaped yard and quarters above the garage.

A custom-made front door was created to match the original, and the original 1920s windows add character to the home’s facade.

Inside, the home features natural light and timeless beauty. The foyer features original hardwood floors and divides the den and living room/ dining room areas.

The central hallway facing the entry showcases wall sconces and chandeliers.

Natural light from all sides enhances the den with a wood-burning fireplace and mantle restored from the original 1920s version. A gas pipe that was added for instant starting and continual flame.

The den also features reproduction crown moldings and picture

railing (found throughout the house); and a beautiful Chinese chest that contains the high-tech sound system that sends music to speakers controlled in several rooms and outdoors.

The sun room, with an indoor water faucet and drain in the concrete floor, and the living room/ dining room area boast abundant natural light. The dining room features two sets of French doors: one leading to the kitchen and the other opening to the side yard.

The well-appointed L-shaped kitchen has

India granite counters, subway tiles, a pot filler, and a hand-painted mural on tiles above the La Cornue stove.

Hillebrand adds, “The La Cornue Company is legendary for its beautiful stoves made to order for the great kitchens of France. To the connoisseur, the La Cornue stove is the absolute best.”

Other features in the kitchen include abundant counter and cabinet space, double sinks, a Sub-Zero over/under refrigerator with custom oversized glass door, and a breakfast area with skylights and a door leading to outdoor covered patio.

The upstairs master bedroom has a vaulted ceiling, abundant natural light and French doors leading to the former sleeping porch that now serves as an office/study surrounded by windows and views of the trees and other unique homes in the neighborhood. The master bath offers a large shower, onyx counters with double sinks and the original 1920s tile floor.

The secondary bedrooms are large and flexible in their design. One is being used as a study/ guest room.

Outside, the recently added aluminum cover for the patio with a waterproof roof features a chandelier, an oscillating fan and outdoor speakers and overlooks the beautiful landscaped back yard. The back yard also includes a potting shed with an antique sink, and an antique outdoor shower.

With three bedrooms and 2½ baths, this home at 2 W. 11th Place is priced at $1,650,000.
