HomeAid Playhouse will debut at Minute Maid Park
Where in the world can a child find a toy box filled with toys, games, activities and dreams of fairytale fun that will turn those dreams into reality? At Minute Maid Park, beginning June 25 to July 7, during the Houston Astros games. That’s where HomeAid Houston’s annual fundraiser, Project Playhouse, will debut its 13th playhouse, built by Satterfield & Pontikes
(S&P) and designed by Newberry Architecture.
“The Toy Box Playhouse design was inspired by every dream a child has about opening a toy box or stepping through the doors of a playhouse to begin an adventure while spending countless hours developing their imagination,” said Patrick Mayhan, president of HomeAid Houston. “Satterfield & Pontikes and Newberry Architecture were able to create that place for kids of all ages. It has been an amazing partnership working with their talented team.”
HomeAid Houston, S&P and Newberry Architecture are also partnering with the Houston Astros and the Astros Foundation on this year’s annual fundraiser that raises funds to build transformational housing for Houston’s homeless men, women and children.
The playhouse will be delivered to its temporary home at Minute Maid Park on the Concourse Level at Section 150, where it will be on display so fans can get an up-close look.
The interior features of the Playhouse include a number of play areas such as a rock-climbing wall, a TV and desk area with a mini refrigerator, a painting and chalkboard station, and a Minute Maid juice bar area for kids to “sell” juices. There is also a loft above with a play-net that can be accessed by a built-in ladder or the rock-climbing wall. The exterior features a slide that is accessible from the interior loft. The Toy Box Playhouse also includes air conditioning and interior/ exterior decor that enhances the amenities.
“Satterfield & Pontikes Construction is excited to take part in HomeAid Houston’s annual Project Playhouse fundraiser,” said John Marshall, vice president of marketing. “Project Playhouse gives our organization a creative way to raise awareness about homelessness in our community while raising valuable funds to help HomeAid’s mission. We are looking forward to its delivery and debut on June 25.”
Numerous vendors and suppliers came together to donate materials and services to help in the construction. These companies include R.B. Hash, Chavez Carpentry, Gonzales Electric, Trifection, The Sherwin-Williams Co., Bamex Painting, Greco Structures, Marvin Windows and Doors, and Mirror Gallery.
