Getting Yahoo mail to work on Chrome

- JAY LEE helpline@chron.com

Q: I use Yahoo Pro and whenever I open my Yahoo mail account I get a pop-up that tells me that my browser no longer supports this version and I must download Google Chrome or Firefox or continue with basic mail. What can I do?

A: Yahoo, as well as many other websites, has stopped fully supporting Internet Explorer as it’s simply lagging behind the other browsers in terms of security and functionality.

Because you were accessing with Internet Explorer, Yahoo pushed you to its basic mode. To get back to the fullfeatured mode, you have to explicitly tell Yahoo that is what you want to do. To do this, open Yahoo in Chrome and then click Switch to the newest Yahoo Mail in the upper-right corner.

Once you do that, you may need to clear your cache. Instruction for this can be found at tinyurl.com/cleargooglecache.

This should allow you to get back to using Yahoo the way you like.

Q: Every time I try to post on my Facebook home page or someone else’s, even something as simple as a happy birthday, it comes out in very large font. I’ve tried searching the web for a solution, but the suggestions haven’t worked. Can you help?

A: Facebook, sometime around 2016, made a change to its platform that causes posts of fewer than 86 characters to come out in a larger font.

Facebook claims this change allows for shorter posts to stand out more, but some users seem to be bothered by it and have been somewhat vocal in their displeasure. If it bothers you, there are a few workarounds.

One is to add an image to the post. That will force the text to the smaller side.

Another option is to make your post and then add spaces until you get to the 86-character threshold.
