Going behind the scenes with Pelican Builders
Houston’s high-rise skyline has many contributors, and Pelican Builders is one that has made a tremendous impact with a portfolio that has been a presence in the city for over 30 years.
Pelican Builders’ principal, Robert Bland, who has developed, constructed, and sold gated communities throughout the inner Loop, is also wellknown for his construction in vertical living.
Bland is credited for nearly half of Houston’s high-rises, which include The Woodway, Woodway Place, Woodway Atrium Condominium, The Greenway Condominiums 1 and 2, 5000 Montrose, The Briarglen, Highland Tower, The Wilshire and The Revere.
When Pelican Builders began Highland Towers in 2008, luxury residences were steadily selling. The building opened in 2010 and was 100 percent sold out by 2013.
Highland Tower has much to offer, with a prime location set within walking distance to Highland Village, Central Market and only a brief drive to some of Houston’s finest restaurants.
It also has amenities created for a luxury lifestyle, complete with a kitchen with Bosch appliances, Kohler faucets in both kitchen and bath, as well as gas cooktops, wine coolers and full-access designer cabinetry.
The Wilshire, constructed of 17 floors and 96 units with square footage of residential spaces ranging from 1,392 to 3,561 square feet, offers one of the largest condominium amenity levels.
These include a resortstyle pool with water feature, private cabanas, an outdoor kitchen, excellent fitness center, overnight guest suites, and catering kitchen. Airy and comfortable residential spaces provide beautiful city views; breathtaking natural lighting; outside balconies; and bespoke appliances, flooring, and finishes.
The Wilshire also offers fine touches such as German SieMatic cabinets, electric solar shades, and the gym with a view, which overlooks the stunning outside space with the fourth floor pool, outdoor kitchen and cityscape. The Wilshire opened in February 2018 and was 100 percent sold out less than a year later.
There’s also The Revere in River Oaks to add to their list.
Homes range in size from 2,500 to over 4,000 square feet. The Revere comes with spacious outdoor balconies, expansive interiors, oversized closets and nominal 11-foot ceilings, some of the highest ceilings in the Houston condominium market. Residences also include hardwood floors, fireplaces, Wood-Mode cabinetry, and Sub-Zero and Wolf kitchen appliances.
“Of all the projects we have ever built in Houston, The Wilshire and The Revere are destined to become the most significant landmark buildings developed by our company,” said Bland. “Both of these projects are sure to provide unmatched condominium ownership experiences.”
Pelican Builders’ president Derek Darnell and the Sudhoff team commemorated the topping out of The Revere at River Oaks in June 2019.
The Revere is slated for completion in spring 2020 and is 80 percent sold out. The new nine-story has only seven residences out of 30 left on the market.
Darnell said this was a milestone event for their company.
“It confirms that there is a market for people looking for a lock-andleave luxury lifestyle in a River Oaks location,” said Darnell.
