Flynn in Republican primary for Texas House District 138
Texas House District 138, which includes Bear Creek neighborhoods and parts of Spring Branch, had been a solid GOP seat for years, but the suburbs are changing, and in 2018, longtime state Rep. Dwayne Bohac won reelection by 47 votes.
With Bohac opting to not run again, the district is up for grabs, and the
Republican primary has drawn three conservative candidates in Josh Flynn, Lacey Hull and Claver T. Kamau-Imani. Only one, though, has the experience that GOP voters need.
Flynn, a lifelong conservative activist, is our choice in the Republican primary.
The current secretary of the Texas GOP, Flynn served in the Marine
Corps and has been an active member of the community, coaching youth sports and serving as a scoutmaster and mentor in the Boy Scouts. In 2018, he was elected to the board of trustees of the Harris County Department of Education, where he was named board president.
If elected, Flynn says he would focus on flood mitigation, establish an independent auditor position over school districts and increase border security. His goal, he told the Editorial Board, is to get government out of people’s lives and not cater to big business or special interests.
Neither of the other two challengers met with the board. Kamau-Imani, who rose to prominence as part of the tea party movement, would outlaw property taxes and shut down toll roads. Hull, a first-time candidate, co-founded the We the Parents Coalition and testified in Austin for parents who opt-out their children from mandatory vaccines.
Flynn successfully sued to remain on the ballot after his eligibility was questioned. Opponents argue that his trustee position, which he has since resigned, disqualifies him from a spot in the Legislature. That matter remains open and won’t be resolved until after March 3.
Even with that decision hanging over his candidacy, Flynn is the best choice for GOP voters in District 138.
