San Diego State suffers first loss

SAN DIEGO — Elijah Mitrou-Long scored 19 points, including two free throws with 11.5 seconds left, and UNLV handed No. 4 San Diego State its first loss of the season, 66-63 on Saturday night to end the Aztecs’ 26-game winning streak.

San Diego State, which had been the nation’s only undefeated team since Jan. 15, erased most of a 14point deficit when it pulled to 64-63 on Malachi Flynn’s 3-pointer with 14.5 seconds left.

Mitrou-Long, a transfer from Texas, was fouled by Matt Mitchell with 11.5 seconds left and made both free throws.

Flynn missed a contested 3-pointer with 3.3 seconds left and the ball went to the Runnin’ Rebels.

SDSU (26-1, 15-1 Mountain West) unveiled the regular-season conference banner before the game.

BYU 91, GONZAGA 78

Yoeli Childs scored 28 points to help the No. 23 Cougars upset the secondrank­ed Bulldogs at Salt Lake City, ending Gonzaga’s 19-game winning streak.

Jake Toolson added 17 points and T.J. Haws had 16 points. BYU (23-7, 12-3 WCC) never trailed after halftime en route to winning its eighth straight game.

Killian Tillie scored 18 points and Corey Kispert added 16 to lead the Bulldogs. Filip Petrusev added 14 points and Admon Gilder chipped in 13. Gonzaga (27-2, 13-1) won the previous five meetings in Provo before Saturday.

NORTH CAROLINA ST. 61

M.J. Walker scored all 12 of his points after halftime to help the eighth-ranked Seminoles take control in the second half and beat the Wolfpack at Raleigh, N.C.

Patrick Williams also scored 12 points for the Seminoles, who have won six of seven to stay near the top of the Atlantic Coast Conference standings.

The Seminoles (23-4, 13-3) also threw out some zone looks to get the Wolfpack off stride early in the second half.

LOUISVILLE 72 NORTH CAROLINA 55

Jordan Nwora scored 18 points to lead the No. 11 Cardinals over the Tar Heels at Louisville, Ky.

The Cardinals (23-5, 14-3 Atlantic Coast Conference) guaranteed they would stay in first place in the conference ahead of a big Monday night matchup at No. 8 Florida State.

The Tar Heels (10-17, 3-13) lost their seventh straight game.

KENTUCKY 65, FLORIDA 59

Immanuel Quickley scored a career-high 26 points, including 15 during a decisive second-half stretch as the 10th-ranked Wildcats pushed past the Gators at Lexington, Ky.

Tyrese Maxey had 13 points for first-place Kentucky (22-5, 12-2 Southeaste­rn Conference), which took a three-game lead over Florida (17-10, 9-5).

DAYTON 80, DUQUESNE 70

Led by Obi Toppin, and Jalen Crutcher — who scored all of his 17 points in the second half — the host Flyers cruised to a win over the Dukes, the 16th win in a row for the Flyers.

Trey Landers added 12 points and Crutcher had five assists for the Flyers (25-2, 14-0 Atlantic 10).

AUBURN 73, TENNESSEE 66

The 13th-ranked Tigers rallied from a 17-point deficit in the second half to beat the visiting Vols behind Samir Doughty’s 22 points.

Led by Doughty’s hot streak, the Tigers (23-4, 10-4 Southeaste­rn Conference) scored 18 consecutiv­e points to spark the comeback against the Volunteers (15-12, 7-7).

Jordan Bowden scored a career-high 28 points and six assists and made 3 of 4 3-pointers for the Vols.

OREGON 73 ARIZONA 72 (OT)

Payton Pritchard scored a career-high 38 points, Shakur Juiston added all of Oregon’s points in overtime and the 14th-ranked Ducks rallied to beat the No. 24 Wildcats at Tucson, Ariz.

DUKE 88, VIRGINIA TECH 64

Cassius Stanley scored 21 points and made a season-high five 3-pointers to help the No. 6 Blue Devils win at Durham, N.C.

Matthew Hurt added 16 points for the Blue Devils (23-4, 13-3 Atlantic Coast Conference), who never trailed.

VILLANOVA 64, XAVIER 55

Saddiq Bey scored 22 points and the No. 12 Wildcats beat the host Musketeers for their fourth straight win.

The Wildcats (21-6, 10-4 Big East) have recovered from a three-game losing streak that knocked them out of the league lead.

PROVIDENCE 84 MARQUETTE 72

Luwane Pipkins scored 24 points and David Duke had 15 to lead the host Friars to their third straight victory — all over ranked teams.

Markus Howard scored 38 points for No. 19 Marquette, which lost its third straight game.

UCLA 70, COLORADO 63

Tyger Campbell had seven of his 15 points during a 20-3 Bruins’ run, and the Bruins rallied from nine points down to beat the No. 18 Buffaloes and tie Colorado atop the Pac-12 Conference.
