Ramey, defense lead Texas to blowout of Kansas State

MANHATTAN, Kan. — Courtney Ramey continued his torrid scoring streak with a career-high 26 points, Texas caused havoc for Kansas State on the defensive end and the Longhorns cruised to a 70-59 victory over the Wildcats on Saturday.

Donovan Williams added 12 points and Matt Coleman III returned from the first missed game of his college career to also score 12, keeping the Longhorns (16-11, 6-8 Big 12) firmly on the NCAA Tournament bubble as March draws near.

Xavier Sneed had 15 points and Makol Mawien 14 for the Wildcats, who went on a late run to leave the final score closer than it was much of the game. K-State (9-18, 2-12) has lost seven straight for the first time since 2001.

Texas was holding tight to a 26-20 lead when David Sloan committed turnovers on back-toback possession­s, leading to a pair of easy run-outs. Ramey had the first of them, then followed Brock Cunningham’s dunk — and another turnover by the Wildcats’ Mike McGuirl — with a 3pointer and pair of free throws to highlight a run of 11 straight points.

TEXAS A&M 87 MISSISSIPP­I STATE 75

Josh Nebo matched his a career high with 21 points, Savion Flagg added 15 points and 10 rebounds and the host Aggies had their best shooting performanc­e of the season in a victory over the Bulldogs.

Wendell Mitchell scored all 20 of his points in the second half for Texas A&M (14-12, 8-6 in Southeaste­rn Conference). Quenton Jackson added 18 points, and Emanuel Miller had 10.

The Aggies shot 59.6 percent (31 of 52) from the field, besting their previous high mark of 56 percent in the season opener against Northweste­rn State.

Tyson Carter made five 3pointers and scored 19 points to lead Mississipp­i State (17-10, 8-6). Robert Woodard II added 18 points, Reggie Perry had 14 and Nick Weatherspo­on had 11.

TCU 67, WEST VIRGINIA 60 (OT)

Kevin Samuel scored six of his 19 points in overtime and the host Horned Frogs extended the No. 17 Mountainee­rs’ Big 12 road woes.

The Horned Frogs (15-12, 6-8 Big 12) thought they had won for just the second time in nine games in regulation when Desmond Bane sent the crowd into a frenzy on a driving layup with

0.9 seconds left. But the senior guard was called for pushing off as he went up for the shot.

Derek Culver had 18 points and 12 rebounds, and Taz Sherman scored 16 points for West Virginia (19-8, 7-7).

TEXAS TECH 87, IOWA STATE 57

Jahmi’us Ramsey scored a game-high 25 points, Kyler Edwards added 19 points and the visiting Red Raiders routed the Cyclones.

The Red Raiders (18-9, 9-5 Big 12) drained 15 of their first 19 shots, sank five of their first seven 3-point attempts and went 10 of 11 from the free throw line to build a 51-35 halftime lead. Ramsey and Edwards combined for 11 assists and Kevin McCullar grabbed nine rebounds for Texas Tech, which improved to 3-4 on the road in conference play.

Solomon Young led Iowa State (11-16, 4-10) with 16 points and Rasir Bolton added 13 points.

SAM HOUSTON STATE 77 HOUSTON BAPTIST 73

Sophomore Zach Nutall scored 22 points on 9-of-11 shooting from the floor and the host Bearkats held off the upset-minded Huskies.

Nutall sank 2 of 4 shots from 3-point range with three assists and two steals for Sam Houston State (18-10, 11-6 Southland Conference).

R.J. Smith had 14 points and nine rebounds, while Kai Mitchell pitched in with 12 points, nine assists, six rebounds and two blocks.

Ian DuBose topped Houston Baptist (3-22, 3-13) with 20 points. Philip McKenzie finished with 11 points and 11 rebounds for his first double-double of the season. Freshman Noah Thomasson came off the bench to score 12 on 6-of-7 shooting with five rebounds.

UTEP 68, RICE 62

Daryl Edwards had a careerhigh 34 points as the host Miners snapped a five-game losing streak by knocking off the Owls.

Souley Boum had 16 points, seven assists and six rebounds for UTEP (14-14, 5-10 Conference USA).

Drew Peterson had 18 points and 12 rebounds for the Owls (13-15, 5-10). Trey Murphy III added 13 points. Robert Martin had 10 points. Josh Parrish had a career-high 11 rebounds plus 10 points.

TEXAS SOUTHERN 94 MISSISSIPP­I VALLEY STATE 92

Justin Hopkins had a careerhigh 24 points with 10 rebounds as the visiting Tigers edged the Delta Devils.

John Jones had 19 points and Tyrik Armstrong added 16 points and six rebounds for Texas Southern (13-13, 10-3 Southweste­rn Athletic Conference). Eden Ewing had 10 points. Hopkins made 9 of 11 shots.

Michael Green had 26 points for the Delta Devils (3-24, 2-12). Caleb Hunter added 21 points, six assists and five steals. Torico Simmons had 19 points.

PRAIRIE VIEW A&M 69 ARKANSAS-PINE BLUFF 61

Devonte Patterson had 25 points as the visiting Panthers got past the Golden Lions.

Antione Lister had 15 points and six rebounds for Prairie View (15-11, 11-2 SWAC), which earned its fifth straight victory. Gerard Andrus added 11 points.

Markedric Bell had 14 points for the Golden Lions (3-23, 2-12), who have now lost 11 straight games.

TULSA 79, SMU 57

Martins Igbanu scored 23 points on 9-of-13 shooting and grabbed nine rebounds to lead the host Golden Hurricane to a win over the Mustangs.

Lawson Korita scored 14 points for Tulsa (18-9, 10-4 American Athletic Conference), and Darien Jackson added 12 points.

Tyson Jolly had 18 points for the Mustangs (18-8, 8-6). Isiaha Mike added 13 points.
