After a lengthy and gallant battle with laryngeal cancer, Charles (Charlie) Grant passed away on February 22, 2020.

He attended Kirknewton Primary School and West Calder High School. Charlie then attended Napier Technical College in Edinburgh, and upon receiving his certification, he went on to obtain an apprenticeship with Ferranti’s in Edinburgh working on the terrain following radar/bomb sightings for the Phantom

F5.

In the mid-70’s, Charlie became the Founding Director of Klaper (UK) Limited, Bathgate, Scotland, specializing in the sales, service and repair of Blow Out Preventers (BOP’S) and Sub-Sea Well Control Equipment for the Offshore Oilfield Industry. The company was sold to Oil States Industries, Inc., and he continued on as Managing Director of Oil States Klaper LTD for 4 years. Subsequently, Charlie founded and was the Managing Director of Pressure Control Systems (PCS) of Aberdeen, Scotland.

Upon his retirement and moving to Ormond Beach Florida in 2005, he started his own consulting business, Scotia Energy Services, Inc. Charlie continued to consult part-time as a Principal Specialist of BOP & Well Control Equipment for Aberdeen Drilling Consultants LTD (ADC), in regions of the United States, primarily Texas, Louisiana and California.

Charlie became a Naturalized Citizen in April 2011 and retained dual citizenship. He was a member of the Rangers Football Club, Glasgow Scotland, and followed both Formula 1 and NASCAR. He was very successful in 10-pin bowling, winning the 4-man team Scottish Championship in 1977, and also enjoyed NFL, gardening, reading, fishing, snooker, poker and gambling. Charlie was an avid, “cack-handed” golfer since the young age of 12, having played dozens of courses in his homeland and throughout the world.

Charlie was a very recognized businessman, honest, respectable, and highly regarded throughout the oilfield industry. He was enthusiastic and compassionate about his work, which ultimately led to extensive traveling and to becoming a seasoned, world-wide traveler. He was adventurous, full of fun and laughter; generous, kind, wise, humble and sincere.

Charlie was described many times over as “a legend”; an admirable man who had extraordinary stories to tell, because he lived them. Charlie never met a stranger and had a life well fulfilled.
