HELEN E. SWANSON 1930-2020

A beloved wife, mother, grandmothe­r and great grandmothe­r, Helen Elizabeth Pass Swanson, 90, of Houston, Texas passed away on Wednesday, the 19th of February 2020. She was born in Jackson, Mississipp­i on the 22nd of January 1930. In 1952 she graduated from Michigan State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education and was a proud member of Gamma Phi Beta sorority. At MSU she met the love of her life, Carl Alton Swanson, and they married shortly after her graduation. She was a talented educator for the first four years of their marriage, and used her talents to provide a nurturing background to daughters, Cindy and Julie, who completed the family. As a devoted wife and mother, Helen happily supported her husband in his successful oil and gas exploratio­n career which took them to live in Illinois, California, Colorado, Wyoming, Utah, Texas as well as London, England. Each of these moves required Helen to use her outstandin­g, clever resourcefu­lness and resiliency to establish wonderful new home bases for her family. Very intelligen­t and well read, Helen planned amazing vacations throughout Europe and beyond for her family to assure that time overseas was well spent. Finally settling in Houston in 1972, Helen and Carl enjoyed traveling, gardening, golf, sports, reading and playing bridge with a large group of friends. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, as well as, the Huguenot Society, St Bartholome­w Chapter. Helen is survived by daughter Julie Monroe and her husband Jamison; daughter Cindy Weegar and her husband Allan; grandson Brent Weegar and wife Kinsey, granddaugh­ter Kristin James and husband Brandon, grandson Andrew Weegar and wife Krista; great grandchild­ren Tucker, Trace, Macy, Barrett, Owen, Emberleigh and Olivia. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Carl Alton Swanson and parents Fredrick Earl

Pass and Helen Elizabeth Amoss Pass. The family would like to extend their gratitude to all of Helen’s devoted caregivers for their service and kindness: Lisa Roberson, Thelma Jones, Pam Kirby and Wendy Belt. A funeral service will be conducted at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston, Texas 77079 on Saturday, March 7, 2020 at 2:00pm, followed by a reception from 2:45-4:45 pm. There will be a graveside service at 3:30 pm at Memorial Oaks Cemetery. In lieu of customary remembranc­es, memorial contributi­ons may be directed to the Lewy Body Dementia Associatio­n, (https://www.lbda.org/ donate) 912 Killian Hill Road S.W., Lilburn, Georgia 30047 or to a charity of your choice.
