Ammo or Diet Dr Pepper Stocking up

-

Just read where some folks are stocking up on their gun and ammo supplies as a response to the coronavirus crisis. Guess when you’re under stress you reach for what gives you the greatest comfort and sense of security, which in my case would have me trying to score a case or two of Diet Dr Pepper.

Goodbye, DeAndre

Regarding “Caught up in money,” (C1, March 17): It’s bad enough that we have a disease causing panic at the grocery stores, closures of businesses and schools and increasing illness and deaths, but some things are beyond the pale.

It’s bad enough that there’s no sports to speak of, and that a major source of entertainment when self-quarantined is taken away, but there remained other sports to look forward to, when the virus had passed.

Now, even that’s been stripped away, with the trade of DeAndre Hopkins by Bill O’Brien.

Sic transit gloria Texans.

Bob Gayle, Houston

With the trading of DeAndre Hopkins, the most exciting and beloved player to come along since J.J. Watt, Bill O’Brien just put the nail in the coffin of the Texans. This fan is gone.

Cuts to health care

Regarding “Trump’s budget cuts put children at risk” (A17, March 13): I agree with Dr. Hooli’s insightful and passionate views on the effects on the world’s children and on our environment of President Donald Trump’s proposed budget cut to the State Department, EPA and CDC.

This is precisely the worst time, given the current health crisis, to pass any legislation that will adversely affect the health of the children of the world and their environment.

Leadership

Regarding “We need real leadership, President Trump,” (A39, March 15): All you read is liberals trashing President Donald Trump on how he’s handling the coronavirus. Now come on. Would you rather see Joe Biden as your president? Heck, he would forget what disease we are fighting!

Carl J.Schiro, Houston

Everyday the past two weeks I have watched our president and his coronavirus task force give an update and take questions on the coronavirus.

I question whether 78-year-old Bernie Sanders or 77-year-old Joe Biden would have the mental or physical stamina to handle this type of crisis.

Books for … reading?

Regarding “Stock up on books, not toilet paper, for virus,” (A15, March 14): Was Edward Nawotka suggesting that we use the pages of our books instead of toilet paper? I'm in good shape as I have a nice selection of books. This is a good time for a little humor.
