Home builders rally to donate PPE equipment to health care industry

-

With the shortage of masks and eye protection among health care workers continuing to be at a crisis level, HomeAid Houston and HomeAid America have joined both the U.S. president and vice president to ask the building industry to assist in donating masks, eye protection and other personal protective equipment (PPE).

HomeAid Houston is working with David Weekley Homes and BMC for their leadership in organizing the local efforts (#builderscare).

With the help of the Leading Builders of America and the Greater Houston Builders Association members, more than 3,000 masks and 1,500 eye protection units have been donated locally to date. Nationally, more than 150,000 units that include both masks and eye protection have been collected.

The supplies are being donated to Kaiser Permanente in Richmond/Rosenberg, with others going to a clinic in Fort Bend County that is working with non-insured individuals. The drop-off is located at BMC Millwork at 16002 Tomball Parkway, Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Materials being collected are masks that can include dust and N95, although N95 masks are preferred because of their ability to significantly block particles like coronaviruses, eye protection such as glasses, goggles, shields, etc., surgical gloves and anything else useful as PPE.

“It is imperative that our health care providers have these masks as they are on the front line of the battle to test, treat, and contain COVID-19,” said Carole Brady,

executive director of HomeAid Houston. “HomeAid Houston is grateful to the Leading Builders of America and GHBA members for their quick response to this call to action. These donations are a reflection of the industry’s deep commitment to our community and to those who serve us.”
