Miss Emily Taylor Matteson Weds Mr. Cody James Thomas

Miss Emily Taylor Matteson and Mr. Cody James Thomas were united in marriage on Saturday, June 20, 2020 at five o’clock in the afternoon at the Chapel of The Church of St. John the Divine in Houston, Texas. The double ring ceremony was officiated by the Reverend Charles Holt and music provided by Stephen Newberry.

Following the ceremony, the bride’s parents hosted a dinner in their home.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Paul Matteson of Bellaire, Texas. She is the granddaugh­ter of Mrs. Vonda Freeman Matteson of Houston, Texas and the late Dr. James Robert Matteson of La Marque, Texas and the late Mr. and Mrs. Robert M. Taylor of Wharton, Texas.

The groom is the son of Lt. Col. and Mrs. James Vernon Thomas of Fort Worth, Texas, formerly of Aledo, Texas. He is the grandson of Mrs. Mildred Book Thomas and the late Lt. Col. Vernon Kenneth Thomas of Austin, Texas and Mr. Gary Frederick Swanson and the late Mrs. Sue Ann Swanson of Willow Park, Texas.

Emily is a 2010 graduate of Episcopal High School in Bellaire, Texas. She received a Bachelor of Science in Applied Learning and Developmen­t from The University of Texas at Austin in 2014, where she was a member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority. Emily also earned a Master of Arts in Teaching at Relay Graduate School of Education in 2019. Emily is currently employed by River Oaks Baptist School as a teacher.

Cody is a 2009 graduate of Aledo High School in Aledo, Texas. In 2013 he received a Bachelor of Science in Constructi­on Science from Texas A&M University and was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. Cody earned his Juris Doctor degree at South Texas College of Law in 2016 and is currently employed by Hartline Barger LLP as an Associate Attorney.

Emily and Cody will reside in Houston and look forward to their honeymoon to Thailand next summer.
