Close to area hubs, Memorial highlights nature in urban oasis

-

Between the wooded Memorial Park and the peaceful neighborhoods surrounding it, the Memorial area offers a tranquil and secluded residential option for people not wanting to leave the city.

Memorial boasts easy access to the hubs of Houston. A drive to the Texas Medical Center is about 20 minutes, and either airport is roughly a 30-minute drive.

The independent villages of Hedwig, Piney Point, Bunker Hill and Hunters Creek form the Memorial Villages, each with its own mayor and city council but sharing services for fire and police. Within the wooded villages, you can hear owls and spot other wildlife along the neighborhood bike paths.

Another community in the area, Briargrove, could define “neighborliness.” On any given evening, adults relax in their chairs in front yards, watching the neighborhood kids whiz by on their bicycles and skateboards.

The area is adjacent to the Energy Corridor, so major employers including oil and gas are nearby. Memorial is also home to top retail in Memorial City Mall, Town and Country Village, and CityCentre, which offer high-end shopping and an array of dining and outdoor entertaining options.

One prominent site is Terry Hershey Park, which stretches along Buffalo Bayou, offering a network of hiking and biking trails amid the 500 acres of parkland. Being able to bike to work and avoid the commuter frenzy can be appealing to residents, especially within the Energy Corridor.
