George floors Escudero in 9th

Joe George made sure no one could criticize the judges’ decision in his rematch with Marcos Escudero.

The Houston resident knocked out Escudero with a violent left uppercut early in the ninth round of their light heavyweigh­t bout Saturday at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn.

George (11-0, 7 KOs) won a split decision over Escudero (10-2) in the pair’s first match back in November.

GOLF Trio tied atop Inverness field

Danielle Kang returned from a 45-minute rain delay with two birdies. By the end of the roun, she was happy to have a share of the lead in the LPGA Drive On Championsh­ip at Toledo, Ohio.

Kang followed her backto-back birdies with three straight bogeys, another birdie and finally a 4-foot par on the final hole to salvage a 1-over 73 and tie Celine Boutier and Jodi Ewart Shadoff.

PRO FOOTBALL Cowboys cut kicker Forbath

The Dallas Cowboys released Kai Forbath, clearing the way for Greg Zuerlein to be their kicker. Forbath signed a oneyear contract in March after making all 10 kicks as the midseason replacemen­t for a struggling Brett Maher in 2019. Zuerlein signed a three-year contract with $2.3 million guaranteed just a few days later.

Dallas put defensive back Saivion Smith on the reserve/COVID-19 list. In other news:

Detroit quarterbac­k Matthew Stafford was put on the list by the Lions, according to the league’s transactio­ns report.

WNBA Williams, Sky edge Mystics

Gabby Williams and Cheyenne Parker each scored 16 points and the Chicago Sky beat the Washington Mystics 88-86 at Bradenton, Fla.

In other action:

• Sylvia Fowles had 21 points and 13 rebounds as Minnesota beat Connecticu­t 78-69.

• Breanna Stewart scored 21 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead the Seattle Storm to an 81-75 victory over the Los Angeles Sparks.
