Keeping devices COVID clean

- JAY LEE helpline@chron.com

Q: I am managing a number of computer workstations that are shared among multiple users. What is the best method to prevent any possible spread of germs and viruses?

A: Keeping things like a computer keyboards and mouses clean is difficult even when there isn’t a raging pandemic. It’s even more of a challenge when so much is at stake.

As it is not recommended that you clean such things with anything liquid, your best option would be to keep anything that is potentially contaminated from coming in contact with the hardware in the first place.

Keep hand sanitizer and wipes on hand and encourage your computer users to clean their hands both before and after using the computers.

Something else worth considering is that a nonwireless mouse or keyboard can be completely submersed in water without damaging it, but only if they are disconnected from the computer and allowed to dry completely before reconnecting.

Wireless mouses and keyboards should not be immersed in liquid.

Q: Something called How To Simplified has taken over my Google Chrome browser and search engine. As a result, I cannot bookmark new sites, but lots of ones I have not bookmarked are shown. How do I get rid of this?

A: How To Simplified is a browser add-on, that

changes your default search engine and home page to myway.com and adds bookmarks to questionable sites to your browser.

To remove it from Chrome, open up the Extensions setting by typing in chrome://extensions in your Chrome address bar and then hit Enter. Look for the How To Simplified extension and remove it.

After that I would suggest resetting Chrome back to defaults.
