A’s closing in on AL West crown

OAKLAND, Calif. — Jake Lamb hit a two-run homer and the playoff-bound A’s blanked the Giants 6-0 on Saturday.

The A’s clinched their third straight postseason berth with a 6-0 win Friday night and are closing in on the club’s first AL West crown since 2013. Oakland could have clinched the division title if Arizona had beaten Houston Saturday night, but the Astros won 3-2.

YANKEES 8, RED SOX 0: J.A. Happ pitched eight scoreless innings, Clint Frazier hit a two-run home run and New York won at Boston for its 10th consecutiv­e win. It also dropped New York’s magic number to one to clinch its fourth consecutiv­e postseason berth.

TWINS 8, CUBS 1: Eddie Rosario, Miguel Sano and Josh Donaldson homered as Minnesota clinched a second straight postseason berth with a victory at Chicago.

RAYS 3, ORIOLES 1: Charlie Morton pitched five effective innings and AL East-leading Tampa Bay won at Baltimore.

WHITE SOX 5, REDS 0: Tim Anderson hit two of Chicago’s five solo homers, and visiting Chicago took another step toward the AL Central title.

DODGERS 6, ROCKIES 1: Clayton Kershaw held host Colorado to four hits and a run over seven strong innings to lead Los Angeles.

ANGELS 4, RANGERS 3: Mike Trout delivered a tiebreakin­g RBI single in the eighth inning, and host Los Angeles won its third straight game.

METS 7, BRAVES 2: Rookie David Peterson fanned a career-high 10 in six innings as New York won at home.

PHILLIES 3, BLUE JAYS 1: Vince Velasquez pitched six strong innings, Andrew McCutchen hit the go-ahead single in the fifth inning as host Philadelph­ia beat Toronto.

MARLINS 7, NATIONALS 3: Miguel Rojas and Garrett Cooper each had a double and a homer and host Miami beat Washington as the Marlins maintained their hold on second place in the NL East.

CARDINALS 5, PIRATES 4: Tyler O’Neill hit a two-run double in the seventh to end a no-hit bid started by Pittsburgh’s Mitch Keller, as St. Louis rallied to beat the Pirates. Keller pitched six no-hit innings.

BREWERS 5, ROYALS 0: Corbin Burnes and two relievers combined on a four-hit shutout and Ryan Braun hit a three-run homer as Milwaukee won at home.

TIGERS 5, INDIANS 2: Eric Haase and Daz Cameron hit RBI singles, and the Tigers won their first game following manager Ron Gardenhire’s retirement.

MARINERS 4, PADRES 1: Justus Sheffield pitched six strong innings to lead host Seattle to victory.
