CONDO LIFE

Condo resident shares his enthusiasm for high-rise choice.

Living the condo life is the perfect place for many who call these their homes.

In Realtor.com’s 2019 article, What Is a Condo? No, It’s Not Just a Fancy Apartment, a condominium is defined as a private residence owned by an individual in a building or community with multiple units.

Though they do share common areas such as various amenities such as swimming pools, gyms and outside spaces, residents don’t have to maintain these themselves. Residents are responsible for paying dues to the homeowners association that manages repairs and building maintenance throughout the property.

These homes can be a preferred choice for retirees, young adults without children or someone looking to own property in densely populated areas where single-family homes are highly priced. Condo homeowners also have the chance to enjoy the luxurious amenities without the upkeep and the lock-and-leave lifestyle.

Byron Davis and his wife, Holly, have owned a condominium at The Parklane since February 2000. Though they had never owned a condo previously, they knew friends that loved the high-rise experience. Their condo purchase was to have a place for weekend getaways and family and friends to use, Davis said.

They’re more than happy with their condo choice still today.

“In January 2012, we sold our home in the Heights and moved full time into The Parklane,” said Byron. “During the previous 12 years, we made several renovations to our unit, so when we moved in, it was perfect for us. Since then, we have purchased and remodeled several condos as both investments as well as for guest accommodations. Holly’s sister now lives in one of our remodeled units. We hope in the future to have all three of her sisters living in The Parklane.”

Byron is still looking to add yet another condo in the future at The Parklane to his others.

“We have seen the plans in motion for the building and love the new public space and apartment designs. We believe in the vision of the management and their transparency on all things that affect the residents. Honesty and integrity have been the words that I use when describing to others The Parklane management,” he said.

Several factors including the lock-and-leave lifestyle as well as The Parklane’s location as a plus to choosing these condos. It was their extensive traveling experience throughout the world including Singapore, San Paolo, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Buenos Aries, where Davis visited high-rises to compare amenities, the views, cost of ownership and level of resident happiness.

“Needless to say, The Parklane stands out amongst the international cities. The curved floor-to-ceiling windows in the corner apartments provide endless hours of enjoyment, from watching the weather move through the city, to spectacular sunsets and sunrises. Like New York with its Central Park, we are across from Hermann Park, near the museums, Rice University and Medical Center. We loved living in the Heights, but we love the Parklane’s location even more,” he said.

Overall, the Davis’ home selection was a great one.

“The Parklane provides great value for our monthly maintenance fee. Yes, we have tennis courts, a pool, an outdoor kitchen, and a workout area. We especially appreciate the attentiveness of the staff. Holly and I love … The Parklane,” Byron said.
