Land Tejas donates 18th lot for GHBACharity Project
Land Tejas has donated their second lot in the community of Lago Mar for the 40-year- old Greater Houston Builders Association’s charity fundraiser.
It is also their 18th lot they have donated over the years, to ensure the Benefit
Homes Project raises valuable funds for local charity.
There have been many outstanding milestones during the 40-year history of the project. Records continue to be broken by builders who recruit a growing list of vendors to donate materials and labor for construction of their Benefit home.
Sales continue to climb, and several Benefit Homes builders have donated construction management multiple times. With this 18th lot donation, Land Tejas’ contribution over the history of the Benefit Homes Project is valued at $1,080,000.
“This figure is a huge factor in why the GHBA’s annual charity fundraiser has been so successful,” said Terry Swenson, director of public relations for the GHBA. “Al Bende, co- owner of Land Tejas, has shared the vision of the Benefit Homes Project for two decades. His generosity has served the Benefit Homes charities well, beginning with Texas Children’s Cancer Center, the Alzheimer’s Association, and this year, HomeAid Houston and Operation Finally Home.”
Each year, two homes are built for the Benefit Homes Project with donated materials, labor and services from GHBA members in prime communities throughout the Houston area. The homes are sold at market value, and the home buyer purchases a luxury home with amenities not often found in other homes with similar pricing. Since the project began, nearly $12 million has been raised.
Chesmar Homes is breaking ground on their Hillcrest Plan on Nov. 5. This home will be Chesmar’s seventh Benefit home they have constructed for the fundraiser.
Lago Mar is a 2,033-acre masterplanned community in the Texas City area, located in the rapidly growing Galveston-Clear Lake corridor.
The master plan calls for approximately 4,000 homes, several lakes, open areas, parks and walking trails. Upon completion, the community will be home to an estimated 14,000 residents.
Lago Mar is also home to a 12-acre lagoon that offers a mile of shoreline — more than many other Crystal Lagoons amenities in the nation. It holds 24 million gallons of water, and the lagoon’s liner system is large enough to cover the entire Houston Galleria mall or 14 NFL football fields. More than 70,000 people have been enjoying the lagoon since opening.
