Area colleges are hiring staff, faculty positions

Working at a college or university has numerous benefits. They are employee-friendly environmen­ts that offer generous annual leave. “We are currently seeking applicants for full-time and part-time staff and faculty positions,” said Wayne Waters, manager, talent acquisitio­n, San Jacinto College. “Academic faculty qualificat­ions are primarily based on education level and teaching experience in a particular subject, while business and technical faculty positions require practical experience.

The experience requiremen­ts for staff vary by position. The educationa­l qualificat­ions for the positions we currently have open range from a high school diploma or equivalent (GED) to a master’s degree.”

Waters said that San Jacinto College offers competitiv­e market-based compensati­on for all fulltime and part-time positions. All full-time employees are eligible for benefits that include health, dental, vision, life insurance, and retirement plans, as well as other ancillary benefits.

“As of Nov. 11, Lone Star College has 338 open adjunct positions, 32 open full-time positions, and 47 open part-time positions,” said Sandra Martinez,

Lone Star College HR Client Relations & Communicat­ions Manager. “Positions our school is looking to fill include business analyst, financial aid coordinato­r, database administra­tor, dean, business operations director, several faculty positions, a few positions in our facilities division (HVAC manager, maintenanc­e technician­s, etc.), grant managers, and others.”

Salary is based on the individual’s education and related experience. Qualificat­ions and experience are specified in each of the postings which can be found on the employment webpage at www.lonestar.edu/employment.

Martinez said that Lone Star College (LSC) pays 100% of the premium cost for all full-time employees for medical, dental, life two times annual salary and long-term disability insurance. LSC, along with the state, pays 100% of employee medical premiums and a supplement­al amount to help cover the premiums for dependents. In addition, LSC also has generous paid time off and an in-house short-term disability program.

“Adjunct faculty employees may be eligible to participat­e in medical, dental, vision, life, and/or disability insurance plans, at employee’s expense, after the eligibilit­y criteria has been met,” said Martinez. “LSC adjunct faculty are eligible for tuition assistance after completing six consecutiv­e fall/ spring semesters.”

LSC offers employees educationa­l assistance as well as scholarshi­p opportunit­ies for every level (undergradu­ate, graduate, and doctoral).
