Tulsa comeback stuns No. 19 SMU

TULSA, Okla. — Zach Smith threw for 325 yards and three touchdowns to help Tulsa recover from a 21-point second quarter deficit and upset No. 19 SMU 28-24 on Saturday.

After throwing an intercepti­on and losing a fumble that led to another touchdown on his first two possession­s, Smith bounced back. He completed 26 of 38 passes, including a 4-yard touchdown toss to James Palmer for the go-ahead touchdown with 2:11 remaining.

It was the third time this season the Golden Hurricane (4-1, 4-0 American Athletic Conference) won after trailing by double digits in the first half, and the second time they did it against a ranked team.

Shane Buechele completed 18 of 36 passes for 200 yards and one touchdown for SMU (7-2, 5-2).

UTSA 52, UTEP 21

Frank Harris accounted for a career-high five touchdowns as the Roadrunner­s routed the Miners at San Antonio.

The Roadrunner­s (5-4, 3-2 Conference USA) had a program-best 600 yards of offense while winning their fourth straight against UTEP (3-4, 0-3).

Harris had touchdown runs of 35 and 4 yards, and finished 22 of 26 for 312 yards passing.

GEORGIA SOUTHERN 40 TEXAS STATE 38

Shai Werts ran for three touchdowns and passed for another, Alex Raynor kicked four field goals and the Eagles held off the Bobcats at Statesboro, Ga.

The Eagles (6-2, 4-2 Sun Belt Conference) racked up 386 yards rushing as Werts (21 carries for 120) and Logan Wright (14-103) each topped 100 yards.
