Texas A&M downs DePaul

Kayla Wells scored 22 points, N’dea Jones had a double-double and No. 13 Texas A&M edged No. 19 DePaul 93-91 on Saturday at Chicago.

Wells made two free throws with 4.9 seconds left to put the Aggies up 93-90 and then Aaliyah Wilson fouled DePaul’s Lexi Held with 0.9 seconds to go. Held missed the first free throw, negating a chance for an intentiona­l miss and putback on the second attempt so she made it.

With less than a second, there wasn’t enough time for an intentiona­l miss, and 3-point attempt.

Jones scored 17 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.

Destanni Henderson and Zia Cooke each scored 19 points, and the Gamecocks beat South Dakota in the Bad Boy Mowers Crossover Classic at Sioux Falls, S.D.

Henderson finished two points shy of a career high for the Gamecocks (2-0).

Chloe Lamb led South Dakota (0-1) with 18 points, and Hannah Sjerven added 15 points and 12 rebounds.

Taylor Mikesell scored 28 points and the Ducks opened the season with a win at Eugene, Ore.

Center Sedona Prince had 17 points for Oregon. Oregon (1-0) is replacing four starters after it went 32-2 last season, including three first-round picks in the WNBA draft.

Haley Greer scored 20 points and Myah Selland added 19 to help host South Dakota State beat the Cyclones in the opener for both teams.

All-American Ashley Joens had 35 points and 12 rebounds for the Cyclones (1-1).

Behind a suffocatin­g defensive performanc­e in the fourth quarter, the Owls improved to 2-0 with a win at Little Rock, Ark.

The Owls spoiled the Trojans’ season opener by allowing just six points over the final 10 minutes on two made field goals on 17 attempts.

Rice placed four players in double-figures for a second straight game, which included a teamhigh 15 points off the bench from junior guard Haylee Swayze.
