Q: Whenever I click on a link in an email it will not start my web browser and showme the web page. I have to copy the web address and paste it into the address bar to be able to go to the link. How can I fix this problem?

A: Microsoft Windows assigns your various installed programs to their corresponding files and links.

The problem is that if Windows doesn’t know what application is associated with specific files and links, it will either do nothing or it will prompt you to specify what action should be taken.

To fix this problem, click on the Start or Search menu and type Default Apps and hit Enter.

This will bring up the utility that lets you choose what applications you want to use as the default.

Look for the section that says web browser and choose the browser you like. If it is already selected, choose a different one and then go back and change it again. That should fix the problem.

If not, go ahead and uninstall your browser and reinstall it and that should take care of it.

Q: My computer is really slow to boot up. When I open the Task Manager I see something called Superfetch consuming a lot of resources, especially hard drive access. What is this and can I disable it?

A: Superfetch is a Windows service that runs on your PC and is designed to make a PC run more efficiently. It does this by accessing data on your hard drive and loading it in to your Random Access Memory, aka RAM, so the data is more readily available to the system.

If you believe that this service is causing you more problems than it’s worth, you can disable it by clicking on Start or Search and typing services and hitting enter. In the windows that pops up, look for Superfetch and then double click it. Here you can stop the service or even disable it altogether.
